Desolat Reemerges With New EP From Cortes

Loco Dice’s beloved Desolat imprint is back after a three-year hiatus, and Cortes drops off his Dutchmaster EP to kick off a fresh chapter!

Desolat, the brainchild of house icon Loco Dice, was first dreamt up in Brooklyn back in 2007. Ultimately the imprint would settle comfortably into its home of Düsseldorf, Germany, and proceed to bless the music industry with incredible beats from some of the most creative humans on the planet, including DJ Sneak, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Marcell Dettmann, Luciano, and bucket loads more.

Unfortunately, during the global COVID crisis, Desolat’s progress fell to the wayside since Loco Dice chose to take the opportunity in lockdown to launch his new label, En Colour. Fast forward to the present, and while the bossman is freshly off yet another label launch, Serán Bendecidos, he has decided it’s time to restore the imprint that held such a special spot not only in his heart but in the hearts of the house music community around the globe!

Miami’s own Cortes is taking on the task of Desolat’s rekindling, and he brings along a ferocious four-tracker called Dutchmaster. The title track starts with lyrics from “Pass That Dutch” by the legendary Missy Elliot. While the vocals put you in the mood to get lifted, it’s the booming bass, flighty rhythm, and animated melodies that will take you higher. Now that you’re sweating from the energized groove, “Trickin’” tones down the atmosphere to let the body unwind. It features a bubbling bassline and vocal clips that clap back with a cheeky attitude, allowing unpretentious fun to rule the dancefloor.

Next up is “Section West.” This track comes cartwheeling in with a trippy underground essence in tow. While the dark undertone is the main character, the unique top-end tones dig their way deep into the furthest layer of the subconscious. Now that the mind is fully dominated by delirium, “Eightsix” invites its listeners to indulge in the afterparty. From start to finish, your brain will be bombarded with powerful euphoric sound structures, soul-stirring vocals, and a seething bassline groove that’ll keep the body begging for more. In reflection, Cortes hit the bullseye bringing Desolat back to life.

All good things need a break, and the time felt right to pause. I was waiting for the right moment to reignite the label, and now the music and the time couldn’t be better. So LET’S GO
