David Waxman curates the vibe on Ultra Records’ U R House compilation with tunes from Anabel Englund, Solardo & Idris Elba, and more.
Ultra Records have rightfully earned respect within the dance space via multiple endeavors, including their long-running compilation series. Their President, David Waxman, is charged with protecting the roots of a culture decades in the making and bringing it into a new era. Waxman’s story is admirable – from promoter and venue manager to resident DJ and respected journalist, and his experience shines through on the latest offering from Ultra Records, U R House.
The Ultra Records brand was built in part from the Ultra compilation series: Ultra Dance, Ultra Chilled, Ultra Electro and many more. By reimagining this series for the streaming era, the new UR mixes will deliver what Ultra has been known for: bringing exciting dance sounds and styles into the mainstream. From remakes of classic hip hop and R&B tracks to brand new club bangers, Ultra has released some incredible house music over the years and because I grew up listening to house music in its golden era, I want to make sure we will continue to do so for years to come.

U R House is a 15-track mix compilation that pays respect to several generations of dance music with impeccable clarity, placement, and relevance while showcasing what’s to come from the label’s U R DJ Mix Series. It opens with a remix of the stunning vocals and high-strung melodies that Sofi Tukker and Mahmut Orhan provided on “Forgive Me” as MOTi twists the track in a different direction. Listeners are gently transported into a more idyllic period of raving with a thoughtful throwback to Toni Braxton on “Take Me” from Martin Ikin and Joshwa.
Siren swells create excitement on the dub mix of Icona Pop and Ultra Nate’s “Your Free,” on which diva-driven, lyrical power pleasantly maintains its strength until it stops entirely and allows the music to groove into the next track. Other tracks that stand out include Space Rangers and Disco Lines’s “TIL I DIE,” SNBRN and FREAK ON’s “I Don’t Think U Do,” Solardo and Idris Elba’s “Big Talk,” and Anabel Englund’s “Midnight Rapture.”
The remix of Tribe of Good’s “Siren Song” by Cassius rightfully holds the closing spot as the lengthiest in the mix. A block beat and perfected vocal harmonies alongside a host of other treats create a blend that provides a well-formed, skilled synopsis of the mix and a positive indication of where House music might be heading next.
