Hard techno artist Klangkuenstler teams up with Obernauer to bring an angsty, high-energy two-track release to the scene on Outworld.

Klangkuenstler is a techno producer from Berlin, who has been steadily releasing music and making his presence known in the scene over the past decade. An illustrious figure in the European techno scene, he regularly tours the continent with upcoming shows in London, Barcelona, and Amsterdam, among others, and is gearing up for an appearance at Movement Detroit this May. Klangkuenstler emanates high-strung energy that’s signature in Berlin’s techno community and has held nothing back on this two-track release, Die Welt Brennt, on Outworld.

Both tunes on this release are collaborative works with Obernauer, who carries quite the mystique as they also only have one tune on Spotify, “zwei.” The relationship between these two artists is a curious one, but these two collaborative tracks showcase this pairing is a match made in hard techno heaven.

The title track “Die Welt Brennt,” which translates to “the world is burning,” opens up its dominating sonic atmosphere straight from the moment you press play. Klangkuenstler wastes no time getting into the mix on this tune that is certainly set for peak hours in an industrial club setting. Simple, minor harmonies begin to show themselves after the German spoken word vocals bring in some more personality to the atmosphere. When listening, you can only imagine the power that this tune carries in live settings, paired with the immaculate energy that Klangkuenstler is known for bringing to the stage.

The second track on this EP, “Mein Wille,” translates to “my will.” The vocals in this track are strained and match the character of the track’s driving, cinematic techno soundscape. Just like the previous tune, this one comes out hard with no shame or gentle introduction as the percussion and bass feel like a heavy weight consistently dropped on every beat. The melodic synth figure provides some reprieve and gives a different context to the vocals, which sound as if they are ridden with angst and carry an exacerbated tone. It’s perfect for the Berghain-esque club settings that Klangkuenstler has come to make his home.

Look for more from Klangkuenstler as we head deeper into 2023 as this is only the beginning of his musical journey this year. Listen to Die Welt Brennt on Spotify or grab a copy on Beatport, and follow him on social media to stay in the know on future releases and shows.
