WHIPPED CREAM releases a new ambitious single and accompanying music video ahead of her next EP, Someone You Can Count On.
Following a busy festival season, several tour stops with DIESEL, and astounding track releases such as “Be Here (La La La),” WHIPPED CREAM has even more in store for 2023. More recently, she looked to Monstercat to drop off the latest selection from her upcoming Someone You Can Count On EP, “The Dark,” which is already set to be featured at SXSW’s XR Competition with an immersive world premiere.
WHIPPED CREAM is no stranger to pushing herself and successfully getting others involved in her boundary-crushing ideas, to help create new forms of magic within the dance scene. That’s exactly what she did for “The Dark” by enlisting rapper and songwriter Jasiah and producer Crimson Child, who team up with her to convey a story of love and loss on the track, a thickly composed genre-bender that packs all the drama.
There is love in holding on and there is love in letting go. “The Dark” is inspired by the concept of picking up a rose – it looks incredibly inviting and beautiful to hold, but it can puncture the skin. It’s about a relationship where one person hasn’t cut out their toxic behaviours and although beautiful underneath, they still damage the one they love most. It’s learning to finally let go of what might be so beautiful yet painful and unhealthy, and head into the unknown, “The Dark.”

Jasiah’s raw and emotionally-charged tone lends a hauntingly painful edge to the production standards that were risen within other areas of the track. The flow of mental states in a venomous relationship is vividly depicted in both the audio and accompanying visual, ensuring the listener a submersive, heart-wrenching experience across layers of alternate realities.
Equipped with the ability to transfer people in and out of the Metaverse, Vancouver-based studio Departure Lounge used over 100 cameras to capture WHIPPED CREAM, Jasiah, and Crimson Child in the world’s highest-resolution volumetric VR music experience thus far. Transforming artists into holograms against fiery virtual reality shots turns “The Dark” into a playground for the senses with eye-catching details from corner to corner.
