deadmau5 Delivers Devilish Vibes on "My Heart Has Teeth"

deadmau5 dives into the world of horror with his latest single, “My Heart Has Teeth,” featuring vocals from Skyler Grey.

From iconic hits such as “Ghosts n Stuff” to “Phantoms Can’t Hang,” it is without a doubt that the mighty deadmau5 has sought inspiration amongst the darker themes in life. The spooky vibes always landed front and center for the mau5trap label boss with career-defining sets such as Hard Haunted Mansion back in 2008 to his more recent Day of the deadmau5 weekend during Halloween. Yet, his sound continues to shape-shift with the next cutting edge. After scoring video games, movies, and more, the time has come to set his sights on the iconic Resident Evil series, which is out now on Netflix.

For his latest release, deadmau5 turns to a more vintage, modular sound to craft “My Heart Has Teeth” as he leans on older synths like the Jupiter and JUNO to extract a sound that transports listeners to a darker dimension. Deadmau5 has again tapped long-time collaborator and vocalist extraordinaire Skylar Grey to lace the track with silky smooth vocals. The lyrics carry listeners through a dystopian urban wasteland as an undulating bass line and shimmering hi-hats bring a certain lightness to an otherwise dark and deathly track. “My Heart Has Teeth” is a more profound yet downtempo vibe than the typical deadmau5 banger but a work of art within itself.

’Dystopian suburbia’ is the kind of vibe I had in mind when making this song. It’s been pretty cool because I like that weird, corporate overtone of this entity that owns the village if you would. I just imagine what that would be like while roughly composing the song with of course the vocal accoutrement of Ms. Skylar Grey. She’s an amazing talent to work with and she just nailed the lyrics.
