Kanye West Drops From Headlining Slot at Coachella

Kanye West has dropped out of his headlining slot at Coachella just over a week from when the festival is set to kick off in Indio.

The anticipation for this year’s edition of Coachella, the first to occur since 2019 continues to grow by the day, especially after the lineups for the Do LaB and Heineken House stages dropped last week. But this morning a hiccup in the plans has seemingly occurred as Variety and TMZ reported that Sunday night’s headliner for both weekends, Kanye West aka Ye, has dropped out from the lineup.

Rumors had swirled about Kanye West’s performance at the festival for weeks after he mentioned that he would bring Travis Scott, a previously announced headliner who was dropped after the Astroworld incident in Texas, along with him for an appearance. According to Variety‘s sources, he had allegedly not rehearsed or prepared for the upcoming appearance at the festival which is set to kick off in 11 days.

This year has seen Kanye West be at the center of controversy online after the divorce from Kim Kardashian became official. This concerning behavior included a 24-hour ban on Instagram for harassment, a ban from performing at the Grammys, comments made toward fellow headliner Billie Eilish, and the public embracing of ostracized celebrities over the past few months.

Kanye West dropping out of Coachella is something that’s fresh in the minds of those who have flocked to the festival in the past. He had been rumored to headline in 2019, but was ruled out due to his desire for a custom-built dome and instead brought his Sunday Service to weekend two.

While Harry Styles and Billie Eilish are set to headline the festival on Friday and Saturday, no indication has been made about Sunday’s new headliner. Swedish House Mafia, who previously announced via Instagram that they would be playing on Friday, seems to be the easiest replacement with the festival so close to opening its gates.

No official statements have been made by Kanye West or Coachella since this news broke earlier today. Stay tuned for more details on this developing story.
