Departure Festival has canceled their edition this weekend in Playa del Carmen due to a severe rise in COVID cases and new restrictions.
Last year, a new destination experience for the house and techno community was announced from the minds of The Cityfox Experience, Brooklyn Mirage, and Pollen Presents. Dubbed Departure Festival, this five-day-long affair in Playa del Carmen boasted of an impressive lineup that featured legends such as Adam Beyer, &Me, Dubfire, Joseph Capriati, Sven Väth, and Peggy Gou, among others.
As many made the trek to the tropical location for Departure Festival this weekend the dark cloud of the pandemic loomed over the festival as a severe uptick in COVID-19 cases occurred in the region. Yesterday, the festival’s organizers posted an update with the news that the opening day would be postponed until Friday – but today a new update arrived that stated it will not take place at all due to new restrictions put in place by the Governor in the region.
Those who purchased passes for Departure Festival will be refunded and offered a $200 credit to a future Pollen experience. It’s important to note that hotel bookings are not affected by this cancelation, allowing those who have already traveled to Playa del Carmen to continue their stay. If you have questions about your refund, please contact Pollen via their live chat on the app or send them an SMS message at 25931.
Stay tuned for further details on festival postponements and cancelations as concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic continue.
Why is the Zamna Festival continuing in Tulum?
I’m not buying the excuse.
