Chicane Releases Remixes of ‘Everything We Had To Leave Behind’

in New Releases

After releasing Everything We Had To Leave Behind in April, Chicane breathes new life in its tracks under his Back Pedal Brakes alias.

Few artists in the scene have a storied career quite like Chicane. Since first emerging on the scene he’s taken listeners on trips to vast destinations inside their minds with his releases, helped push the Balaeric sound forward (which has influenced other genres to this day), and played at some of the world’s most beloved venues. Chicane continued on his path in 2021 with his eighth studio album, Everything We Had To Leave Behind, marking the latest chapter in his story.

First landing back in April, Everything We Had To Leave Behind was the culmination of Chicane’s experiences before and during the pandemic – especially the exploration of what really matters in life and what was lost at that time. Now, the sensual sounds and lovely grooves that were found within the album’s runtime have received some new life from the iconic artist as he’s unveiled a flurry of remixes under his Back Pedal Brakes alias for everyone to listen to.

Speaking about the creation of these remixes, Chicane said that the original album “reflected a lot of what I and I’m sure others were also feeling: separation, isolation, loss, and with that, a greater appreciation of life.” He then continued on to say that he “had a new persona in mind for remixes, so I took on the form of Back Pedal Brakes and started tinkering.” The result of that tinkering in the studio was a complete recreation of the album centered on the current breakbeat culture and carry the notion of tracks or albums never being truly static along with them.

I worked through the near entirety of ‘Everything We Had to Leave Behind’ track by track, as I felt those tracks had more evolution left in them. They probably still have, but they tell me I have to stop somewhere. Thank you to all that bought, streamed, and found meaning in the album. I hope you enjoy both the caterpillar and the butterfly.
