Explore the uplifting, trap-infused soundscapes of Skyler Madison’s creation on the Iridescent EP – out now on Circus Records!
Based in Los Angeles, rising bass artist Skyler Madison has been deeply involved in the electronic music scene for nearly a decade. Spending a majority of that time gaining traction as an open-format DJ, her diverse sonic artillery refuses to be limited to a single genre. More recently, Skyler has been cooking up some absolute bass heat in the lab and now you can get a taste of the artist’s impeccable production talent. So if you’ve wanted to get a taste of what she has in store for 2021, you’ve tuned in at the perfect time.
Out now on Circus Records, Skyler Madison’s debut EP, Iridescent, consists of five tracks, each of which tells a story while evoking strong emotions. Combining elements of trap, future bass, wave, and hip-hop, each track on the EP shines in its own way and is trapped with collaborations with vocal artists Leah Culver, 24hrs, and TITUS as well. It’s a fresh, charismatic take on bass music as we know it and brings an indescribable allure that is difficult to resist.
Iridescent begins with “High,” a sensual tear-jerker that blends genres with cutting expertise. Clocking in at just under three minutes, there’s a beautifully surprising amount of emotion in this opening track. Layers of hiccuped bass laced with deafening percussion make “High” one of the true standouts among the collection of tunes. “Old Me” arrives next and brings harmonic pops along with it as 24hrs joins in on the fun to make it shine brightly.
Another one that’s been on repeat is “What It Feels Like” which features Leah Culver’s entrancing vocals. The tune takes a nose dive into a frenzy of high frequencies, electronic blips, and broken basses, completely enveloping the listener into a swarm of hypnotizing sound. Similar in energy to some of the top trap tunes released by legends in the scene, “What It Feels Like” is filled to the brim with otherworldly fervor that you simply won’t be able to get enough of.
Then, there’s an impressive merge of experimental flow and trap on the EP’s penultimate track “Iridescent.” Skyler Madison delivers booming drums and chord progressions that will warp your mind and leave you craving more of her sounds well after the track comes to its end. For the closing track, she then teams up with TITUS to bring forth plenty of deep, reverberating bass on “Reset.” We couldn’t think of a better way to put a bow on this release as TITUS’ flow is paired perfectly with the energetic beat to hit the reset button on your brain.
Skyler Madison’s emergence in the production realm is impressive and if Iridescent is an indication of what’s to come from her in the future it’s exciting to think about what’s to come in the future. Give this EP a listen on Spotify or your preferred platform and stay tuned for her future releases!
