After finding a home on This Never Happened last year, Grigoré returns to Lane 8’s label with At The Edge Of The World.
Grigoré might be one of the newest names to grace the growing roster of artists This Never Happened, but the sounds he’s created have been a welcome addition to their discography. Last year, he made his debut on the imprint with Illusion, a stunning release that acted as the first chapter to this Russian artist’s story. Now, he has made his grand return with another fantastic release that takes place At The Edge Of The World.
Clocking in at six tracks in total, At The Edge Of The World guides listeners through some of the earliest influences that Grigoré had in his life. Taking to Instagram, he told the story of summers during his childhood spent at his grandparent’s house on Sakhalin Island just 100 meters away from the Sea of Okhotsk. “As a kid, I was a dreamer and when I stood by the sea, I pictured myself at the edge of the world,” he said. “I wondered is there anything beyond it? It took my breath away every time.”
Each track on the release pays homage to those summers spent on the shore of the sea. Kicking off with the title track, Grigoré introduces us to the environment with a soundscape that is filled with calming voices and a beat that permeates the soul. The nautical theme continues with “Two Ships,” “Marine,” and “At A Depth Of 3000m,” each of which delivers high-quality synths, organic drums, and serene strings that will wash over the ears of anyone who listens and put them in a trance-like state. The latter of the three even sees Grigoré layer in some alien-like sounds that add to the depth of the track as well.
Closing out the release are “Island Sakhalin” and “Blizzard,” both of which continue the trend of sublime soundscapes packed with tasty stylings. Grigoré puts on a melodic masterclass with these two tunes, adding layer upon layer while taking the listener to the edge of the world along the way. It’s seemingly impossible to not lose yourself to these two as they dominate the senses with each passing second while bringing this chapter of his story to a close.
