Previously: As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, even the most sound-of-mind people are struggling. According to the Washington Post, 75% of young people reported struggling with their mental health, with 1 in 4 saying they’ve had suicidal thoughts. It’s heartbreaking. And if you’ve experienced this yourself, you’re NOT alone. Mr. Carmack is looking to help and today, he announced a Virtual Mental Health Benefit livestream to raise awareness for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Life as we know it has changed. And with continuous cancellations of live events, the electronic dance community, in particular, is experiencing a jarring and significant loss. On top of everything going on in our individual lives, we collectively lost one of our main outlets for coping and relief – live music events. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to see this announcement from Mr. Carmack. He has always been openly grateful to share his music with us, and it’s heartwarming to see him giving back to this community.
The initial Instagram post details that You Are Not Alone will feature sets and spoken words from some of the world’s best musical artists, fans, friends, mental health professionals, and sound healers. To put on the livestream, Mr. Carmack and his family have teamed up with Family Reunions, a collective dedicated to bringing people together through live music and contributing to those in need.
All proceeds from You Are Not Alone will go to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This organization supports mental health education, advocates for policies surrounding mental health and suicide awareness, and provides support and resources for those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
To get a little taste of normalcy and connection, and to support a great cause, tune in to the You Are Not Alone livestream on Twitch on Saturday, February 27 from 12pm – 12am PT on Twitch.
