Dave Suarez proves he’s an artist to watch with the unveiling of Sailor Moon, out now on NoFace Records!
Dave Suarez is an artist who’s honed his skills as a DJ and producer and continued to ascend through the ranks of the scene ever since being discovered and mentored in 2012 by iconic artist Axwell. Over the years he’s lit up dancefloors all over the world with an eclectic blend of electronic sounds, but lately, Dave Suarez dug deep into the production realm culminating in today’s release, Sailor Moon.
You heard that right. It seems as if the Japanese anime series Sailor Moon has become the muse for the Colombian dance music specialist, and with inspiration in tow, the title track offers up some soft and preparative intensity. It is easy to think that this is all fun and games before the sound of the alarm warns us of the ferocity that lies just around the corner.
A major highlight on the title track comes when we hear the pounding of the drums during a breakdown that I simply describe as emotionally mesmerizing. This moment lifts the intensity even more before the alarm rolls back in to finally flip our world upside down. It’s easy to go absolutely bonkers as Dave Suarez straps us in for a wild ride straight onto the battleground to save Earth from the forces of evil!
The B-side, “Dark Kingdom”, stays true to its title as the antagonist in the Sailor Moon series. Dave’s interpretation fills the brain with whimsical fancy but also gets the blood flowing with strong synth patterns that pull back, echo, and fade. This effect comes to a head right before the drum expression allows the combat to commence. The fierce attitude morphs into an unbridled hell-storm of dissonant tones as we near the conclusion, spewing with the type of vitality that will leave you shook.
