Ride Down ‘Never Ending Winding Roads’ with Steve Bug

Acclaimed House & Techno producer Steve Bug releases his latest body of work, the 11-track album Never Ending Winding Roads.

Steve Bug, the man behind the Poker Flat Recordings label family and an acclaimed producer/DJ has unveiled his new album – a contemplative and moody affair of eleven tracks. For 2020, he returns in major fashion with a new album titled Never Ending Winding Roads. Steve may not be the biggest name in the techno scene, but the influence he impresses cannot be swept aside. Formulating his path during the rising days of Germany’s techno and acid-house scene, he hones today’s sounds into more than just movements, focusing on moods and how to grab fans and the newly introduced alike.

Steve’s last album Paradise Sold (released in 2018) was a collaborative effort with Langenberg,‎ and Mixmag claimed at the time it was “elegantly euphoric.” This year’s Never Ending Winding Roads is instead a solo work, representing the work of a craftsman during much of the isolation of 2020 thanks to the global pandemic. If one was to describe the album in a phrase, it would be that Steve’s work expresses “themes of solitude, contemplation, and reflection brought to the fore perhaps more than with any of his previous work.”

Like many of his creative peers, the album was not the focus of some other creative effort. Instead, Steve was able to focus on his creative being and infuse it into the album. He instead straddled the creative energy he loves between a merging of sounds: deep house, tweaked-out acid, and minimal forms of techno and electronic music.

My mindset when making Never Ending Winding Roads was completely different to any other project I have embarked on. I didn’t have to tour, and instead could focus 100% on writing music without having the dancefloor as a constant influence. This allowed me creative freedom to explore a range of styles and emotions, and as a result, it is the album I feel most satisfied with to date.

The eleven tracks stray through a mixture of genres: house, techno, and an exploration of broken beats all playing out during the sonic journey. 8-bit sampling is used on a few of the tracks as well, and the adventure throughout the album is both hypnotic and filled with a sense of paranoia. Give it a listen below and let us know what you think of the album in the comments.

If you fancy a copy of the album it’s available digitally as well as physically on Double Vinyl, grab one now!
