Bringing a fresh new energy to the scene, Monolink blows us away with his debut album, Amniotic.

Gaining popularity in Germany, Amniotic mastermind Steffen Linck, aka Monolink has shaken us to the core through his multi-instrumental live performances worldwide. Using Ableton, his guitar, and live vocals on stage during his performance, he is quickly creating a new and unique sound with the platform of American pop-electronica and underground Berlin techno.

Coming from a musical background, I automatically have so much respect for artists who play live sets with instruments. Looking back, I remember the moment he took my breath away when I was at Desert Hearts Festival 2017. I didn’t know of him then and was taken by surprise when I heard his music playing. His performance was absolutely incredible! It had me in a real life trance and embarrassingly… holding back tears. His music really moves me and I know I’m not the only one to feel this way.

In fact, his first two singles off the album, “Sirens” and “Swallow” blew up on the internet. Both hit #1 on iTunes electronic Germany and were placed in Germany’s New Music Friday. They are also planned to be included in the soundtrack of the upcoming German film “Der Spielmacher”. So without further ado, it’s time to explore some of my favorite standout tunes from Monolink – Amniotic!

Monolink lures you in with a slow, hypnotic beat.

The first track of the album, “Amniotic”, begins with light and airy synths followed by hypnotic beats and vocals that leave your head no choice but to bop. I find this the perfect song as the introduction and beginning of an emotive journey that the totality of the album provides with Monolink as your eager and willing guide. It’s definitely a song that will leave you in a state of rapture!

Quickly, we dig deep into the meat and potatoes portion of Amniotic and I find that there’s something about “Sirens” and “Father Ocean” that makes me very emotional. Monolink’s songs have a blend of both deep and happy melodic sounds and lyrics that could be about anyone or anything. He builds up the song to where you’re emotionally invested by the halfway mark and fighting back tears. These songs are absolutely beautiful and I’m not sure whether to smile, cry, dance, or do all three at the same time!

It is just around the middle of the album if when I find myself “Frozen” on my journey.

It’s one of the only tracks without vocals on the album. Without the voice of Monolink to light the way, I get the feeling of being beautifully trapped in the middle of my musical expedition, locked in my thoughts and craving for the beat to go on forever. A true highlight on “Frozen” comes from the sound of the piano, adding a beautiful touch to the deep and dark jungle vibe I’d expect to hear at Desert Hearts Festival.

“Burning Sun” is the last song on the album and it is safe to say that it is my favorite of the lot! The melody leaves me with that feeling of finally reaching the end of my journey and breaking through to the other side. It’s a strong and powerful track that leaves me not wanting to cry for once but instead, inspires me to dance around and enjoy the moment as we come full circle. I think it’s the perfect song choice to end the album before hitting repeat and listening to the entirety of Amniotic all over again!

Above are only a few of my favorite tracks that I wanted to mention, but this entire album is a masterpiece.

I try to introduce Monolink to anyone that I can because of how beautiful his music is. His live performances are just as amazing as his recorded tracks, which can be rare these days. I can honestly say that I would not skip any song from his album, which is a huge green flag! I suggest listening to the entire album from start to finish as you allow Monolink to guide you through a breathtaking journey!

With a father who is a musician, Julia grew up surrounded by music. While trying out every instrument that peaked her interest, piano, drums, guitar, ukulele, and DAW software holds a special spot in her heart. Attending music events whether it be an open mic night, club, or a festival is one of her passions. As a child, her parents took her to concerts, but at age 13 is when she went to her first one on her own. Since then she has been to many different events in all genres. In 2008, she went to her first electronic music festival, Monster Massive. She's been to smaller club events, but nothing like a massive. After seeing the go-go dancers at Monster Massive, she knew that's what she wanted to do one day. In 2010, she started go-go dancing at smaller clubs and eventually became a performer for Insomniac Events where she performed with them for a year. Experiencing a festival from on the stage is an incredible feeling. There is so much powerful energy that reminds Julia just how much music means to her. While she doesn't dance anymore, she is currently training in pole and aerial arts in hopes to perform at events again someday. Being able to create and share the beauty of music and arts is something that Julia wants to put her energy into. The music scene has changed her life for the better and shaped her into who she is today.
