What was your first electronic music event?
To start… I grew up in the midwest, good ole Monroe, OH and went to college about 2 hours east of my hometown. Let me tell you, there wasn’t much popularity in these areas for electronic events nor did I have a sufficient bank account to attend anything.
So as soon as my ass got out to CALIFORNIA, it raved! Tiny shows, at Bang Bang, others at Omnia, but my first BIG event was NYE Countdown with Above & Beyond and my lifelong love of electronic music was fulfilled and built up from that moment.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
That NYE event was influenced by an old boyfriend, who also had lots of love for A&B as well.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
PUSH THE BUTTON. For you A&B fans… that’s all I’ve got to say.
To those who are learning what that moment means to every A&B fan… it’s when Above & Beyond’s tour manager (he found me) or one of the boys themselves comes down to the crowd and picks you out to go on stage with them, to literally push A button to drop a massive choon such as “Sun & Moon” (that was the one), or the other big banger “Blue Sky Action”.
Anyways – you can watch our magical moment here. A night I will never forget because from the start of that weekend, I went into that club determined to get up there and I DID, poofy, sweaty club hair and all.
What is your favorite festival or event?
I am going to have to say CRSSD Festival for the annual event, but to date, it was only a few short weeks ago that I got to attend ABGT 250. (I’m obsessed, I know)
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
“Sun & Moon” by Above & Beyond – both original and acoustic.
Why, you ask? Cause I’ve never experienced a more physical connection with any song. This song sends shivers down my spine, goosebumps all over my body and tears that fall down my face. It’s a physical and emotional attachment that is hard to explain but is relatable to so many people.
Who are your favorite artists?
I am going to give 3… actually, 4, because I have 4 artists that I love and want to give them all props for being amazing with each having different styles.
- Above & Beyond – that was a given if you haven’t caught on by now.
- Deadmau5 – started my love for this music – every other Myspace track on my profile was Joel.
- Gorgon City – If you have never seen a live performance by them, you are missing out. GO. Life-changing.
- REZZ – My spirit animal. If I could create music… this is the style I would totally dive into. So raw and dark.
What are your favorite genres?
Trance, House, Deep House, Techno – basically anything I can shuffle to.
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I am a monkey. Anytime I am in the crowd with my friends, they are always telling me to start shuffling. Like I am their damn monkey… Dance Monkey Dance…. HA. (That one goes to you, Ty)
But in all seriousness – My identity would be a camouflaged, social butterfly. When I am in the moment, in my body listening and grooving to the sounds, I disappear from the real world and appear in this heavenly body of happiness. I glow and smile constantly from the sound waves bouncing off my skin. It’s as surreal as it gets, but then my skin jumps out of that moment when I see a friendly or familiar face and I run up to them and say my hellos.
I’ve met the most perfect strangers that have turned into friends, I know I will always count on seeing in the crowd at our next event.
Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?
Get out of your comfort zone and attend a festival/rave if you never been. It’s simply life changing.
