Monstercat’s Notaker teams up with Declan James and singer-songwriter Karra for “Who I Am”, a euphoric new single released just ahead of his upcoming EP.
With a little under six years of making music under his belt, Notaker is readying himself to showcase his music to the world in 2017. His breakout synth-filled hit in 2016 “Infinite” has over five million streams on Spotify alone. 2017 looks to be another huge year with his upcoming EP and the release of “Who I Am”, co-produced with Declan James and featuring the stunning vocals of singer Karra.
“Who I Am” exemplifies Notaker’s signature synth style that melds perfectly with the unforgettable voice of Karra. Her soft, dreamy voice provides a levity to the song, echoing throughout over the intense synth build-ups and conveying the track’s underlying message of acceptance. This collaboration marks the first time that we have seen a vocalist on a Notaker single.
In listening to the track further, listeners can discern a light, beautiful piano in the background, first fading in about a minute into the track and then picking up in earnest toward the end. The addition of the piano line adds a depth to the track that cleanly breaks up the sound of the synths, perfectly complementing the vocals.
Notaker is gearing up for the release of his new five-track EP, Genesis, which will come out in late October. This marks the next step in his journey after 2016’s self-titled, The Notaker EP, which features tracks such as “Dream World Lapse”, “Subweapon”, and “Monarch (speed of light edit)”.
Collaborator Declan James has also been making some waves in the scene of late, showcasing a powerful blend of progressive house and trance that has earned him support from major players in the scene, including Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond. Add that to the fact that he is the youngest artist to ever sign with Tritonal’s Enhanced Music, and things are heating up.
