DPR 019 || Des McMahon – Cowboy Funk

Grant Gilmore by Grant Gilmore
September 20, 2016
in New Releases, Music

Discovery Project Releases is a regular series featuring exclusive music from Discovery Project Alumni. DPR 019 is Des McMahon’s track “Cowboy Funk”!

Today, Insomniac’s Discovery Project dropped yet another stellar release in their series that highlights contest winners! The 19th release in the series, our ears are tuned to Des McMahon and his sweet Drum n Bass sound with track “Cowboy Funk“. A Los Angeles transplant, this Philadelphia-born, bass music producer has lit things up on dance floors since he inked his first deal at the age of 18. Having released music with notable labels like Ultra Records, Ammunition Recordings, and more, it is no surprise he has been an Insomniac mainstay as of late. You may have caught him taking the stage at major events like EDC Las Vegas and Nocturnal Wonderland this summer, and now he has his own release on Insomniac Records.

“Cowboy Funk” is a liquid DnB track that is smooth as butter, and has breathed some life into a genre that doesn’t seem to get as much play as we would like in the current scene. I personally enjoyed this track for its solid bassline and more melodic chord progression that left me excited for the future of the genre. Hopefully artists like Des McMahon will continue to work hard to build a resurgence in DnB much like what we are seeing now on the opposite end of the spectrum with trance.

Grant Gilmore’s authoritative voice as a media professional lends credibility not common to EDM journalism. As the founder of EDM Identity he has effectively raised the bar on coverage of the past decade’s biggest youth culture phenomenon. After ten years of working for nonprofit organization Pro Player Foundation, Gilmore launched EDM Identity as a media outlet offering accurate informative coverage of the rave scene and electronic music as a whole. Although they cover comprehensive topic matter, they have taken special care in interviewing the likes of Armin van Buuren, Adventure Club, Gorgon City, Lane 8 and Afrojack. In addition to household names, they have also highlighted unsung heroes of the industry through their ID Spotlight segment. Whether he’s covering it or not, you can expect to find Grant Gilmore attending the next big electronic music event. To find out what’s next on his itinerary, follow him via the social links below.
