I guess I was so used to Giuseppe Ottaviani rocking Dreamstate-style sets that I never really imagined him expanding his prowess into other genres. You can imagine my surprise then, when I discovered just easily and expertly Ottaviani could do just that. This Italian DJ/producer has created a new track that will blow trance fans everywhere completely out of the water.

“Slow eMotion” is anything but “slow,” am I right? This track had me on the edge of my seat from the moment I pressed play. It took me completely by surprise when I heard how hard and edgy the track was getting, and doing so in such a delicate way as if to pay respects to every single sound along the way. I loved how alluring the song was, bringing me back to the present and actively listening instead of just waiting for the drop. While I listened to the song, I couldn’t help but feel like Ottaviani was a composer who had discovered how to orchestrate both elements of the music along with the people who listened it. I swayed, I grooved, and I banged my head at the track’s forceful bass, and thumping resonance. When “Slow eMotion” ended, I had to remind myself that I had just listened to a track created by a trance artist!

The Italian trance master explains how he first got glimpses of the track 20 years earlier and what inspired him again during one of his Live 2.0 sets:
“I really enjoyed listening to early trance & progressive music on my portable cassette player when the batteries were low and the reel was playing at a slower speed, Giuseppe explains. “The music developed an intensity and magic of its own. On what were otherwise much faster tracks, there was more time to enjoy each element and each moment. In later years, at home that progressed when I used to experiment by dropping the speed and pitch of vinyl to experience something similar – albeit in a more controlled manner. This new track has really grown out of those times”.
Ottaviani was able to perfectly capture the hypnotic form of his trance signature while incorporating incredibly edgy, hard elements, and melding it all together into a progressive masterpiece that defies all genres. I love how “Slow eMotion” energizes me and relaxes me at the same time. It takes me out of my head and deep into reflection. Giuseppe Ottaviani certainly outdid himself with “Slow eMotion” and I can’t wait to see what has in store for us next!
