From their early days in punk and ska bands grooving festivals in funk bands, Bedside, is a Miami-based horn driven producer DJ duo shifting their focuses to electronic music production keep the dance floor moving. Travis Acker and Trace Barfield are both performing musicians and multi-instrumentalist whose focus on electronic music production drives Bedside’s high fidelity yet organic sound. The utilization of live elements such as improvisational trumpet and bass provides an exciting and always different live set while never missing a beat. Bedside’s debut EP, One Night With You, is released today on Digable Digital.
The four-song EP is a journey through a diverse range of genres always staying true to Bedside’s distinct sexy dance sound with organic overtones. Seeing their music as a platform to showcase great talent over their original production, this record features two vocalists, saxophone, trumpet, guitar and keys. In typical Bedside fashion, they made sure their debut represented the cutting edge electronic sound while never compromising quality songwriting and organic instrumentation.
Travis Acker discusses the process of moving from live to digital,
“My background has always been in improvisational live music. The idea of leaving the groove open for interpretation depending on the audience and energy is a very romantic idea that puts the emphasis on experiencing the here and now. I have found that DJing music also can carry some of these sentiments. The overall goal remains the same, but the digital tools available now allow for quicker idea development and the ability to take that idea to a performable level in only a matter of days.”
Trace Barfield sums up the project’s mantra in a quick statement, “funky music for funky people!”
