We all have that one special thing in life that we latch on to. For some it’s sports. For others it’s traveling and seeing the world. For a few it may be books or movies. But most can say that there is a special connection they have with music. Almost everyone in the world has some type of musical genre that they gravitate to and I honestly don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy listening to music, even if it is included in a small part of their daily activities. But for me, music has become a significant and major part of my existence. More specifically, TRANCE music has stolen my heart, mind, body, and soul.
If I have to be perfectly honest, trance music was an acquired taste for me. The first few times I heard the genre I wasn’t impressed. I thought it was a dying genre and I truly did not pay it much attention. Truly, the only trance artist that I had latched onto in my early days was the incredible and brilliantly talented Markus Schulz, after an unplanned brush with fate at The Guvernment Night Club in Toronto Canada. But, my heart still remained attached to the Afrojack, Benny Benassi, and the Swedish House Mafia type beats that flooded throughout my life. Then fate would place me at the ASOT stage during EDC Vegas 2012 and my life and feelings about trance would change forever! It was here I witnessed the beauty and intensity that is trance. When I came home from that trip my taste had taken a 180 degree flip. Now I wanted to know all I could about trance and discover what I had almost wrote off completely.
Through the last few years trance has literally saved my life. Trance evokes a passion, a will, a drive, a desire out of me, when I begin to feel defeated or anxious. Trance fills me with emotions that I have never felt before. Emotions that make me feel complete and real and alive. When I hear my favorite trance tracks a happiness washes over me and I can be at peace in that moment. Its almost like a comfortable escape and a place that I can feel safe and content. The moment I realized that I had found my passion is when I was listening to an episode of Simon Patterson’s Open Up and I literally got chill bumps from the music pumping through my speakers. These days those chill bumps happen on a regular basis whenever I am moved by an intense trance melody or reminded of a special festival moment that I experienced, getting to watch my favorite DJ’s do what they do best.
Some of my favorite trance DJ’s are: Ferry Corsten, Simon Patterson, Indecent Noise, Armin Van Buuren, Sean Tyas, Mark Sherry, Above & Beyond, Ben Nicky, Aly & Fila, Astrix, Mark Sixma, New World Punx, Bryan Kearney, Jorn Van Deynhoven, Gaia, and the best DJ on the face of the planet: Markus Schulz. Markus holds a special place in my heart because his music is the definition of everything that makes my soul feel alive. If someone were to ask me what type of ingredients are needed to make the most perfect music in the world, I would direct them to Markus Schulz. To me he has mastered what I believe to be just right in every way. And I will be a proud member of the Schulz Army for many years to come.
So, “why is trance for me” you ask? The answer is simple. Because trance makes me feel happy, content, passionate, and at peace. Something that every human being longs for and searches for. I have found it and I am never letting it go! Here are 2 of my favorite trance tracks of all time: Enjoy!!
Perfect.
