SoundCloud has added some awesome new features this week, keeping its competitive edge in the music streaming world!
SoundCloud has been rolling out a ton of new features over the past two weeks, allowing creators and music-lovers alike to better integrate it with other platforms. The music platform has long been the home of many bedroom producers and musicians without labels or managers, giving them the ability to post music directly onto the platform free of cost. This has led to an enormous catalog of 190 million songs on the site and has made SoundCloud arguably the best place for music discovery, especially when it comes to electronic music.
After some struggles in 2017 to keep the platform afloat, SoundCloud has proved that they’re here to stay with some awesome new features. Just this week, there have been huge new additions to the platform, the first of which is streaming integration with DJ software including Native Instruments, Serato, Virtual DJ, DEX3, Mixvibes, and Hercules.
With this new integration, SoundCloud Go+ users will be able to avoid the expensive and time-consuming process of downloading music onto their computer before DJing. Now, they will have instant access to the entire SoundCloud catalog whenever they so desire to use it, which is huge for newer producers and DJs who may have less time and money to curate their sets.
“Until recently, digital workflows for DJs were limited to downloads and physical media, but streaming workflows are the future….Through these partnerships, DJs will have the largest, most diverse streaming music catalog ever assembled instantly accessible within the tools they use everyday.”
– Kerry Trainor, Chief Executive Officer, SoundCloud
Similarly on the integration front, both listeners and creators will be excited to hear that SoundCloud has created a simple Instagram story integration tool.
No longer will you need to screenshot the tune you’re listening to in order to story it; now listeners can post to their story directly from the SoundCloud app, just by clicking “Share” on a track then hitting “Share to Instagram Stories.” Your Instagram followers can easily listen to the track on your story by clicking the “Listen on SoundCloud App” button. As seen in the demonstration to the left, you can move around the button and design your Instagram to your liking.
The ability to share easily on Instagram is also a huge marketing tool for music creators, who can turn their followers onto their new music with the click of a button.
Last but certainly not least, SoundCloud has partnered with Dubset to introduce much-needed monetization measures for remixes and mixes.
As many users of SoundCloud can attest, one of the best parts of the platform is the never-ending supply of remixes, bootlegs, edits, and mixes available to discover. This surplus of music is any music lover’s dream and allows for creators to share their take on original tracks, but often without the involvement of a label, it’s hard for remixers to get paid out. Dubset Media Holdings has worked to provide value to each and every creator that works on a track. It’s platform analyzes music and attributes creative value from the original track and subsequent remixes, and pays out to all parties.
“Mixes and remixes not only establish incremental new revenue for artists and composers, they have proven over and over to be powerful music discovery growth tools, consistently driving growth in plays of the original track as well. We are very excited to bring Dubset’s clearance capabilities to SoundCloud’s users.”
– Stephen White, CEO Dubset Media Holdings
Great partnership between Soundcloud and Dubset Media! This should make content creation easier and allow musicians and record labels to get paid. Benefits all sides.
