Bringing a fresh sound to the electronic music scene, Josh Jacobson wows with this soulful track.
If you’re looking for the more soulful, softer side of electronic music, look no further than Josh Jacobson. This Brooklyn-based artist is bringing some unreal vibes with his releases. Having released “Polaroids” earlier this year, he has now dropped a fresh tune, “Tethered”, for your listening pleasure. The single coming off of his debut EP First Light features vocals that are blended with bells, trumpets, synths, and a violin to create an addictive track that is the perfect for your summer love story.
When asked about the single, Josh said:
“‘Tethered’ is a song about learning to live in a state of constant flux, and coming to terms with the fact that even the most meaningful connections can be temporary. It’s the first song from my EP ‘First Light’, and it explores the idea of finding perspective in the heat of the moment. I’m proud to feature Kyla Moscovich on trumpet and Meredith Riley on violin, alongside my own instrumentals and vocals on this tune.”

Not only did Josh release a quality tune this month, but also had something to say regarding Pride Month as well.
Creating a pride playlist that you can stream below, he also released a statement about Pride and his own thoughts on what this month means to him.
“After my experience at the NYC Pride march this weekend, I felt inspired to send a note to my team, reflecting on what this process of sharing music is all about to me. It’s easy to get caught up in the whole business of music around releases, so I wanted to remember the deeper meaning and why we’re all here doing this in the first place.
To me, music and art are all about self-expression. Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, yet as a society we push people to conform and “fit in” rather than simply being who they are. Pride is about celebrating the identities and stories of people whose ability to be themselves has historically been threatened. There have been some significant wins for LGBT rights in our lifetime, but we still have so far to go!
Since so many of my closest friends and family members are gay, bisexual, and otherwise outside of traditional norms of gender and sexuality, I think these stories resonate with me in particular. I find deep inspiration in them, and the idea of self-discovery and expression has become a major theme in my music.
Regardless of your background, it is hard to find a way to truly be yourself in this world. In so many direct and more subtle ways, the pressure to conform to an existing model is everywhere. Art is one powerful answer though — for me, creating music is the best way to rise above that pressure and express myself, and I hope my music also inspires others to find their own effective outlets for expressing their individuality.
This music is also about building bridges, creating a new sound and pointing attention toward other powerful voices that have inspired me. I’m striving to make parts of the jazz tradition accessible to a new audience, and also communicating my favorite things about dance music to those who may not be fans of EDM.
With the launch of my own label (Joshua Tree Recs) I’m creating my own platform, to share not only my own sounds but also other voices that I believe need to be heard. Tomorrow I’m excited for you to join me in the beginning of this journey.
Wishing everyone a happy Pride month, celebrating our friends and family of every gender, orientation, ethnicity, race, religion and political leaning!
