Defqon.1 Weekend Festival 2017 || Event Preview

Defqon.1 Weekend Festival, one of the biggest gatherings of the “harder tribes”, is taking place in the Netherlands on June 23 – 25!

Defqon.1 is the ultimate destination for fans of the harder styles of electronic music.From June 23-25 fans of hardstyle and hardcore will gather ad be mesmerized by legends in the genre. In actuality, there are many hardstyle and hardcore festivals in Europe, however, Defqon.1 is considered by many to be the reigning champion. The event will be taking place in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands which is about an hour outside of Amsterdam.

The inaugural festival took place in 2003 with a mere 43 performers and 14 years later it is stronger than ever with 250 acts on 11 color-themed stages. Some of the headliners include Angerfist, DJ Isaac, Darren Styles, Psyko Punkz, and many more. Any fan of the harder styles should definitely try to make it to Defqon.1 at some time. It’s certain that U.S. based hardstyle fans would especially appreciate this event as we, unfortunately, do not have the same wide array of hardstyle and hardcore events as Europe.

Why do I want to attend? Well, in 2013, I become absolutely obsessed with the harder styles. The following year, I was fortunate enough to attend the inaugural Sound of Q-Dance event in Los Angeles. Though I have not kept up with the genre, a festival bucket list of mine is to attend Defqon.1. As I watched the YouTube after movies and trailers, I was mesmerized by the energy that exuded from the attendees that was clearly palpable in each video. This coupled with the amazing production and laser display was enough for me to hold onto the goal of attending even as I drifted from the genre.

Earlier this year, I learned that Darren Styles and Gammer were coming to town and this lead me to binge on their sounds and reminded me of my love of Happy Hardcore which predated my love of Hardstyle. I reminisced about how much I enjoyed the harder styles and decided that this would be the year to attend this massive event!
