In just five tracks, CrucifyMe’s Cross EP delivers a definitive statement on deep, dark, tech-influenced drum and bass and neurofunk.
CrucifyMe has a hard-earned reputation as a disciplined producer. A rigid music production schedule starting with early mornings in the studio has led the Ukrainian DJ to create an EP full of driving basslines and dark atmospheres.
Cross, out now via SINFUL MAZE, is the culmination of CrucifyMe’s grit and determination. Segueing between neurofunk and drum and bass, the EP puts his versatility on full display, combining his deep basslines and ominous, cinematic soundscapes with pounding rhythms.
The EP as a whole exhibits a driving, menacing vibe. Each track’s dark, high-energy atmospheres flow seamlessly into the next. From the sinister opener, “Banshee,” to the more intense and aggressive “Slayer,” Evgeniy Spotar, aka CrucifyMe, shows quite the technical prowess.
“Filth” is exactly that, a filthy, grimy cut full of pulsating rhythms, while “Taco Machine” features a groovier sound with heavy bass. Closing track “Ignite,” a collaboration with it is Jev, wraps everything up neatly in a bow while showcasing both artists’ style. Their intricate precision and modern neurofunk are explosive, making for the perfect festival energy.
CrucifyMe brings out his darker side with Cross. His ability to highlight the nuances of neurofunk and drum and bass with a refined touch is second to none. Tight percussion, driving basslines, and exploration of textures are ever-present throughout the EP. Together, they keep the genre sounding fresh and modern while honoring the original integrity of the classic sound.
