Madam Lola’s debut EP, Domination Frequency, turns years of queer community building and energy into an intentional, floor-ready release.
Domination Frequency has arrived — not only as the first two tracks Madam Lola has shared with the world, but as a continuation of the work she has been doing for years across dance floors from East to West. Also recognized as Lola Lewis, the Mother of House of Lola, and the lead of Vancouver’s queer kinky circus event, FUNHOUSE, the multidisciplinary artist has been centering her work around queer spaces and experiences through DJ sets, visual art, and performance.
Born in Tehran, Madam Lola has built her reputation through performances at Whistler Pride & Ski Festival, Celebrities Nightclub, The Cuff Complex in Seattle, and District Events in Montreal, alongside artists like Horse Meat Disco, Eric Prydz, John Summit, ARTBAT, and Derrick Carter. While her career has largely channeled the energy of Club Kids — a late ’80s and early ’90s NYC nightlife subculture defined by DIY fashion, gender-fluid identity, and queer self-expression — Domination Frequency sees her adapt it into recorded music.
Comprising two tracks, “Whatever Lola Wants” and “Who’s the Master,” the release takes influence from techno, indie dance, and industrial sounds, all blended with cunty commanding vocals. Together, the tracks mirror the energy of queer dancefloors and Madam Lola’s multidisciplinary artistry. The EP somewhat feels like an intentional translation: taking the values, energy, and structure of Madam Lola’s live work and turning them into audio frequencies that’ll live beyond our time.
That sense of intention is deeply connected to her work off the decks. Madam Lola is the founder — better yet, “Mother” — of House of Lola, a queer-forward event series and platform that prioritizes LGBTQ+ visibility, safety, and artistic access in nightlife. She is also a co-founder of Harem, another event series that blends spirituality with club culture to create spaces rooted in connection, particularly for queer, femme, and marginalized communities. Both projects treat nightlife as a cultural and political space, not just an entertainment commodity.
Domination Frequency reflects that same ethos. The EP is not just about grooves, but about how sound shapes collective experience. It documents the movement, intentionality, and communal experience that exist on dance floors Madam Lola activated and curated in a form that now travels beyond one room.
