Redpill returns to his familiar drum and bass sound through his EP, Side Eye, bringing back his cyberpunk soundscapes, crisp synths, and aggressive basslines.
Redpill endured a bit of a creative slump since releasing his last album, Genesis, back in 2023. Struggling to find his current direction, he wrote many songs in an attempt to rediscover himself, only to scrap most and start anew. That struggle led him to Side Eye, a four-track collection of dirty textures and broken rhythms. Out via Darkshire Sound, this drum and bass EP ruminates on being watched, reflecting the tension and pressure Redpill was under as he conceptualized his new sound.
On four tracks, Redpill continues his penchant for pushing neurofunk to the edge, this time returning with something raw and authentically following his instincts. They’re each eerie, intense, and full of nastiness. “Bass Infection” is high-tech neurofunk, while “Side Eye” is an unsettling, ominous track that lends to the theme of being watched from afar. The disrupted harmonies and futuristic gloss continue with “Murmur” and “Reign of Steel,” and I can safely say Redpill is back.
Redpill was able to tune out the noise from peers and fans and dug deep for Side Eye. No longer worrying about the silent judging, he let go of the preconceived notions that were holding him back. Returning to the tricks and tools that had always worked for him, he created some intricate neurofunk magic so filthy you’ll be stuck in permanent bassface.
Side Eye is out now via Darkshire Sounds and is available to stream on Spotify and your preferred streaming platform. Follow Redpill on his social media channels to keep an eye on what he does next.
