Darren Tate, the classically trained musician with two decades of music production under his belt, takes listeners deeper into his hypnotic trance style on his latest EP, In This Space.
Legendary artist Darren Tate, who has also gone by aliases such as JODA, DT8 Project, Citizen Canned, and more, has achieved prolific status throughout his career. Most recently, he’s found a home on Anjunabeats to showcase his deep love for trance and collaboration, and that label is where his latest EP, In This Space, has officially landed today.
With Darren Tate’s deep roots in dance music, the partnership with Anjunabeats for his newest release further solidifies this legacy, as he has worked creatively with the label since its inception. Sonically, the In This Space EP offers a variety of flavors that the beloved artist is well known for, signaling a new yet familiar direction for his production work.
The sanguine vocals of Susie Ledge on the title track, “In This Space,” help bookend the EP. Last year, Tate released his debut album, Metamorphosis, on which he first collaborated with Ledge, setting the stage for their partnership on this project. The original and Deep Mix featured on the EP give a double taste of this future classic track.
Susie Ledge noted that the tune’s message is rooted in the disconnection that comes with holding conversations that aren’t face-to-face. “I often find that without the usual visual queues, I find it difficult to really connect with the person I’m talking to, and there feels like there’s more than just a physical distance between us,” she said.
We had discussed the feelings of disconnect in those moments and then decided to use the concept for a song! Darren’s beautiful instrumentation really brought the whole thing to life. Working with Darren is always inspiring and this track is our fourth collaboration so far.

That’s just a portion of the soundscapes on In This Space, though, as Darren Tate showcases plenty more. The track that best exemplifies Tate’s trance roots on the EP is the haunting melody of “Scare Me,” which dives deep at 132bpm to ignite the dancefloor with a dose of energy. “Polaris” is an uplifting track with cosmic synths and distant vocals that swell with energy and maintain momentum as it leads into heavier soundscapes. Finally, “Mokshe,” Tate’s track with Leena Punks, which dropped earlier this summer, exudes the passion he has for trance with its own blend of vocals and powerful melodic moments.
