Settle Down Drops Four-Track EP, ‘Breathing Space,’ on 1985 Music

Ever the raver, Settle Down has mastered the art of blending the classic with the modern. Through four tracks, he seamlessly weaves through genres in a bass-laden landscape.

Settle Down is back with a four-track EP titled Breathing Space. Landing on Alix Perez’s imprint, 1985 Music, this EP is classic Settle Down, a hybrid mix of genres full of chopped amen breaks and warped bass. Fresh off launching his own label, Guidelines, earlier this year, he’s been hard at work releasing banger after banger, and his newest EP is no different.

On Breathing Space, Greg Hepworth, the mind behind Settle Down, pays tribute to his hardcore and rave influences, blending them with modern touches. All four tracks contain raw energy and deep, relentless bass. Keeping true to his jungle roots, Hepworth dabbles in drumfunk and breakbeat, taking things deeper and darker while remaining melodic and meditative. He’s innovative and forward-thinking, creating a fresh take on jungle anthems.

In less than 20 minutes, the EP takes the listener on a journey, with each cut featuring aggressive, driving basslines that vary in intensity. Opening and closing songs “Agent Smith” and “Line of Fire” are heavier, fast-paced songs sandwiching the lighter, more melodic “Breathing Space,” and the slower-tempo “Ask I.” The latter two have lush, mysterious qualities while maintaining syncopated percussion and rhythm.

Breathing Space is a intricate fusion of rolling basslines, atmospheric vocals, and a vibe that’s both nostalgic and new. The low-end frequencies and dynamic reworking of classic sounds with a modern twist is Settle Down’s current signature when it comes to DJing and producing.

Take a trip back to ’90s raves by streaming Settle Down’s Breathing Space on your preferred streaming platform, and follow him on social media to hear what he comes up with next.
