YOOKiE drags rock’s most sacred anthems into the bass arena with their latest EP, THE DARK SiDE OF THE TRASH, out now on Deadbeats.
Leave it to YOOKiE to turn nostalgia on its head, toss it in the pit, and smother it with enough wubs to rattle your ribcage. These New York native dubstep brothers have been taking over the scene one banger at a time, turning iconic classics into bass-ridden ballads. Now, they are back with their latest EP, THE DARK SiDE OF THE TRASH – a six-track body of work full of bass-fueled reworks of some of rock music’s most sacred songs.
THE DARK SiDE OF THE TRASH isn’t just a clever wink at Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon; it’s a trip down the rabbit hole where all the classics fall, only for them to come out transformed into something sinister. Each rework feels timeless, with riffs you grew up air-guitaring to in your parents’ basement, with a drop of dubstep that feels like the floor just caved in. The EP also includes the viral “SUNSHiNE OF YOUR WUB,” which has become so popular that it needs little to no introduction.
“SEVEN NATION ARMY” kicks the EP off with its legendary riff, only to be swallowed whole by mind-bending drops that fill the air with bass. “COME AS YOU ARE” drifts in with Nirvana’s grunge-soaked haze before twisting into a glitchy descent that Cobain himself couldn’t have ever imagined. “FiGHT FOR YOUR RiGHT” kicks the door down, exploding into trap territory like a drunken house party gone feral.
“BULLS ON PARADE” armed with Code Pandorum, becomes a military bass assault, with every drop sending you further into the depths of head-banging heaven. “DOWN With THE SiCKNESS” takes Disturbed’s primal growl and morphs it into something that only a basshead could love. “Iron Man” marches with Sabbath swagger, covered in a chaotic kaleidoscope of more earth-shattering dubstep.
Since exploding onto the scene in 2012, YOOKiE has carved out their own lawless kingdom where rock and bass become one. Their formula is a relentless blend of trap, dubstep, and the wild spirit of metal, saying to hell with the rules. Each year, YOOKiE breaks through boundaries with their experimental production style, blasting from the past into the future—and this EP on Deadbeats continues that trend.
