Rudimental’s New Album is the Perfect Soundtrack to Close Out Summer

Rudimental’s latest album, RUDIM3NTAL, is filled with euphoric energy and soulful grooves, making for the perfect end-of-summer album that delivers zen vibes.

Few artists have carried drum and bass into the mainstream spotlight quite like Rudimental has. Since storming the UK charts with their 2012 single “Feel the Love,” the London-based trio has consistently produced tracks that transcend beyond the underground. Now, the beloved trio is back with their fifth studio album, RUDIM3NTAL, which was released on August 22. This album is a masterclass at what they do best: create music that uniquely embodies joy and the emotional release of being part of a collective experience of enjoying music together.

RUDIM3NTAL isn’t just meant to be experienced in festivals or sweaty, dark nightclubs. Rather, its sound-waves should travel under open skies and be enjoyed outdoors—at beaches, on walks, and during late-night drives with the windows rolled down. Even though the first signs of summer winding down are upon us, RUDIM3NTAL is the ideal soundtrack for a proper send-off to the season.

The deluxe version of the album is a cohesive collection of 19 songs that don’t stray too far from one another sonically. When listening to the track list in chronological order, each song seamlessly transitions into one another. Songs like “Back To Me” with Jess Glynne and “Bring Me Joy” with Karen Harding lean into smoother melodies and atmospheric layering that define liquid drum and bass. Meanwhile, other songs—such as “Chop Dem Down” with 1991 and RoRo—borrow from jungle through intricate break patterns and syncopated, rolling breakbeats.

Although there isn’t much range between tracks, this uniformity is one of RUDIM3NTAL’s strengths. Each song complements the others, reinforcing the sense of cohesion across the album.

Alongside its light and balanced production, RUDIM3NTAL stands out for its impressive lineup of featured artists. In “All I Know,” Khalid’s smooth and velvety vocals effortlessly glide over the liquid beats, while Rag’n’Bone lends his deep, soulful vocals to “Nights Like These” for a song that feels like a crowd-favorite sing-along.

Rudimental has also enlisted the help of several producers, including 1991, Vibe Chemistry, and Skepsis, to add their own unique touch to these tracks. Tracks like “Green & Gold” with Skepsis and Riko Dan, and “Dancing is Healing” with Vibe Chemistry, are both elevated by Charlotte Plank’s distinctive vocals.

The overall atmosphere of RUDIM3NTAL can be described as harmonious and laid-back. Lush vocals sing emotive lyrics over melodious soundscapes, creating mood-driven songs that motivate introspection and swaying rather than head-banging or heavy skanking. As summer fades into fall, the album reflects this shift with warm, uplifting melodies and gentle, reflective undertones.

In an era where a track’s crowd appeal and likability in bass circles is often measured by how heavy the bass and drops are, RUDIM3NTAL offers a refreshing listening experience. It shows that music doesn’t need to be heavy to be impactful, but that music driven by melody, atmosphere, and thoughtful production can be just as compelling.

Grab your headphones and sunglasses, and soak up the last days of summer while listening to RUDIM3NTAL on your preferred streaming platform.
