Bass n Babes launched its label with a fresh compilation, featuring queer and femme bass artists and showcasing the diversity of the underground bass music scene.

This is some babe-certified news: the next era of Bass n Babes is here, and it’s a femme, queer-centric, independent bass music record label. For all the bass baddies on the hunt for hot new tunes, this moment’s for you.

With the imprint’s launch, Bass n Babes continues to empower queer, femme and trans representation in bass music. Its inaugural release, Bass n Babes Vol. I, features a cutting-edge lineup: Baby Kush, Shortcvke, Auracle, Kurei, So Sus, HerShe, Roses Grimoire, farley., VIOLET, Lex Looper, Bunny G, NotLö, nomi, and tess iconic.

The heavy-hitting, head-banging 11-track record hits the airwaves with a razor-sharp array of dubstep, drum and bass, 140, experimental bass, trap, breaks, and more. From strutting summer anthems to ethereal arrangements and undeniable drops, the album delivers a bass-face-approved dance party.

We have poured our blood, not a ton of blood but some blood, sweat and tears into this [album release].

Bass n Babes embraces rave tradition by bringing underrepresented artists into focus. Amid a brimming culture of LGBTQIA+-centered parties in LA, Bass n Babes stands out as an inclusive haven for bass music lovers. The collective walks the walk of building a sustainable, grassroots community through underground events, social media activism, and the “Beats n Babes” music production workshop series. The collective has even extended its rainbow-laden ethos to dancefloors in San Francisco and New York.

On Thursday night, a lively community of supporters and collaborators gathered to celebrate the launch at a wallpapered watering hole along Santa Monica Blvd. Abby Cooper, Bass n Babes founder and label head, reflected on their progress. “I wanted to create a space for queer and femme ravers who love bass music and provide a platform […] for femme and queer DJs,” she said. “Now in our third year, we are building on the momentum, motivation, and energy of all the people who found Bass n Babes and want to support the mission.”

DJ and producer Lex Looper emphasized the calling behind the project. “[Bass n Babes] creates a safe space for queer and femme folks. Especially as a queer person, a trans person, I needed this kind of atmosphere and these kinds of people in my life and knew that the world needs more of that too,” she commented. The record label is the next step: bringing that more towards the general public, sharing that queer joy and representing more of the femme experience. We need these voices more than ever now.”

The label launch party ramped up with sets from Lex Looper, Charlotte Rose, and MICROPLASTIQUE. The festivities culminated in an intimate, high-energy listening party for Bass n Babes Vol. I as the summer sunset faded into a cool night out the open door to East Hollywood.

“I’m very happy that Bass n Babes are launching their record label – it’s good for artists to have ownership over their music and their hard work,” Erika, aka EUPHORIKA shared on the dancefloor. “[Independent labels] revolutionize what music is because there’s this idea that only the 1% can access the rights to distribute music.

With the new imprint, Bass n Babes puts boots on the ground and reclaims the means of distribution—saxophone samples and hi-hats included.  Bass n Babes Vol. I is out now on your preferred streaming platform. Stream the album, and join the collective in cultivating an inclusive, community-first culture in bass music.
