SIREN: “Drum & Bass Is More Than Just a Genre to Me”

in Exclusive Mix, Interview

SIREN swung by to dive into her love for drum and bass and where she sees the genre heading. She also dropped off a mix to showcase her energetic sound.

Drum and bass artist SIREN is taking the scene by storm with her dynamic sound. Hailing from the UK, this DJ and producer gained momentum over the past few years after releasing some fantastic tunes and performing wicked sets in Australia, New Zealand, and the US while getting nods from BBC Radio 1 and the Drum and Bass Awards along the way.

SIREN has only continued to impress in 2024 with a debut at Red Rocks and notable bookings throughout the US, UK, and Europe. On the release front, her latest single, “Dimension,” saw her team up with Mila Falls to deliver an impactful soundscape that fully displays her hard-hitting sound. While SIREN’s fresh tune on Deadbeats shows off her current era, there’s much more to dive into regarding her deep roots in the scene – and luckily, she had some time to chat.

SIREN shared that the first artists she was introduced to in the drum and bass scene were Delta Heavy, Chase & Status, Netsky, and Andy C, but it was a rave featuring Modestep that ignited her passion for the genre. “From that show, I knew I wanted to immerse myself in the scene as much as possible,” she shared.

That kicked everything off for SIREN, and a few months later, she found herself in Ibiza during a vibrant summer. “[I] didn’t miss a single week attending the DnB night in Amnesia,” she reminisced. “That’s where it really started for me. I started selling tickets for the night, then became Artist Liaison and used that opportunity to network. From that, I got my first set warming up for Andy C’s ‘All Night’ event on the legendary Amnesia Terrace.”

Drum and Bass is more than just a genre to me, it is a culture and community built on mutual passions for music and creativity. DnB is a lifestyle, it brings together people from all ages and walks of life and everyone can express themselves through music. As a community it’s a special one, you really feel like you’re part of something, that’s how it feels for me, like going home to your family, my small gesture of giving back is making music.

As a British drum and bass artist, SIREN has been immersed in the genre for years and has seen it prominently displayed. Her recent shows in the US have opened the door for her to grow an even larger following as the sound continues to gain ground in the scene. “What’s really nice to see in the US is that DnB is becoming less of an underground sound and is being recognised and supported much more at all of the major festivals and events,” she said. “The demand is definitely growing along with the community.”

SIREN mentioned that she feels the US crowd is more into the harder styles of drum and bass, like Neurofunk, which she expressed is great for her, as her sound leans toward the heavier side of the genre. Aside from her banging tunes, artists like A.M.C, Circadian, Koven, Teddy Killerz, and Dimension are artists whose tracks she regularly plays in her sets to keep that energetic vibe alive.

As for the future of drum and bass, SIREN is excited to see how far the genre can go. “I think it has the potential to be the leading genre and dominate festival lineups globally,” she shared. “Last year, there were more DnB tunes in the mainstream charts in the UK than we had ever had before. The new Chase & Status track with Stormzy has been at number in the UK charts for eight weeks, which is incredible. That alone unleashes an insane amount of potential for the scene and opens all of us up to a much wider audience.”

The more I am involved with the scene, the bigger I believe it can be. I started this journey as SIREN with huge ambitions and dreams, the changes in the scene at the moment push my ambitions further into becoming a reality.
