Get lost in the boscage created by Paige Julia’s wild beats on Anathema, out now on 1985 Music!

New Zealand-based badass Paige Julia is one artist who has undoubtedly worked hard on every aspect of her music. This talented queen is known to touch on about every genre you could think of, giving her the upper hand in musical creativity. As of late, Paige Julia has honed her focus on the ever-evolving bass scene, and her impact has been nothing short of massive.

Paige Julia’s musical aptitude has impressed many tastemakers and talent buyers, including well-known favorites like UKF, 1985 Music, and Deep, Dark, and Dangerous. Her music has reached the masses and her following has spread like wildfire. Eager to continually kinder the flame she’s sparked, Julia Paige has returned to 1985 Music to unleash more havoc. After previously releasing on the imprint, Paige Julia presents her jungle-heavy debut artist-led release, Anathema.

This release is 4 slices of my jungle aesthetic aimed firmly for the sound system dancefloor, engineered to vibrate the skin.

The title track starts our journey, setting the stage with punchy and playful drums. Layered to perfectly compliment the addicting drum patterns are low-warbled strums of deep bass to push this beat to its full potential. Up next, “Indisputable” provides an enticing intro that leads you into a rapid-fire jungle anthem. Find yourself grasping onto each note as you try to keep up with the fast, choppy pace of the beat.

Switching up the vibe, “Nostalgia” takes you back to the old days. Get retro with a twist as breakbeats are greeted with oh-so-delicious synths over the course of this track’s runtime. We end our jungle journey with a more celestial soundscape on “Tōuarangi.” Rumbles of a thunderstorm fill the space as gentle, angelic, feminine vocals echo in the background, providing an overall feeling of peace.

Find your new favorite jungle jam with Paige Julia as she lays out four very different interpretations of the genre. All palettes are welcome here as Anathema perfects each range from experimental to beatific, leaving listeners on standby as their brains struggle to comprehend the madness that has ensued.

Paige Julia’s Anathema EP is out everywhere now. Listen on your preferred platform to experience her take on jungle beats, and follow her socials below to see what she’s up to next!

Brooke's journey with music began in her youth, where a deep love for melodies and rhythms took root. Years spent finding herself at music festivals only deepened that connection, eventually leading her to realize she wanted more than just to experience the scene, she wanted to be a part of the heartbeat that brings these events to life. Relocating to Denver in 2020 to kickstart her music industry career, she was captivated by the power of words to convey the quintessence of sound. Writing about music became more than just a profession—it became a natural expression of her connection to the art form. Today, Brooke continues to craft compelling narratives celebrating music’s magic. With her deep love for the scene and unwavering dedication, she remains a driving force in the ever-evolving landscape of music journalism.
