Ukrainian producers Artaria, SAINT CODE, Alan Wools, Cherry, and The Advocate spring into the spotlight on Miss Monique’s Siona Records.
Throughout this month, Miss Monique‘s imprint, Siona Records, has highlighted the rhythmic energy and creativity captured by electronic music producers from Ukraine. The four-release series delivers an array of genre-affirming melodic house and techno while unexpectedly planting a flag in the land of trance.
“Things remain very tough for musicians (and people) in Ukraine with the two setbacks they faced. The first was in 2020 when COVID hit, and the second was when Russia attacked Ukraine, causing a lot of destruction, and ruining many music careers in the process,” Miss Monique said. “That’s why we feel it’s important to support Ukrainian artists during this particular post-wintertime – it’s often an even more difficult time of the year.”
To launch the series, Artaria and SAINT CODE released their two-track EP, People Say So. Spaghetti Western elements infused with melodic techno vibes deliver a sense of nostalgia. Within the release, multiple tastes of electric guitar refresh the palate, but a sliding effect is masterfully executed to quench your thirst.
Alan Wools makes his Siona Records debut with Echoes of the Night. Through both tracks on the EP, listeners can explore atmospheric sounds in techno, with echoes and delays shaping the soundscape. Sure to be an instant favorite, “You and Me” boasts a hypnotic rhythm that will shine on the dancefloor.
If “hard melodic techno” were a genre, “Mosaic” would be its definitive release. Cherry‘s strong kick drum solidifies the track’s groove while creating an epic journey for the listener. Meanwhile, “Silent” triggers a sense of urgency with soaring synths complemented by 8-bit ear candy, calling upon the simplicity of classic video game sound design.
To anchor the month’s releases, The Advocate combines two contrasting energies within the soundscapes on Losing Control, officially due out on March 29. The deep, rolling bassline of the title track gives the nod to the dark synthwave sound that’s on the rise. But, the progressive trance characteristics of “Starlight” make it a perfect anthem for the series.
Siona Records continues to provide a platform for Ukrainian producers, remaining at the forefront of progressive house and its various subgenres. Get ready for a unique sonic experience as Miss Monique’s hand-picked selections demonstrate the musical spirit of her home country.
