Tisoki Puts Grail Sounds Project On Indefinite Hiatus

Grail Sounds has been put on an indefinite hiatus, with Tisoki citing the missteps during its launch and an unhealthy creative environment.

The sound of 140 dubstep, occasionally called deep dubstep in the US, has been on a steady rise over the past few years. Established and rising artists alike have championed this underground sound that contrasts the higher-energy side of the genre that’s taken hold of much of the bass scene. Much like other genres that have seen significant popularity boost, this led to many artists beginning to utilize those signature sounds in their releases. Others launched entirely new aliases, like Tisoki with his Grail Sounds project.

Grail Sounds was launched in late February 2023 with a story of its origins being rooted in the UK underground, but outside of its connection to Deadbeats, the project was otherwise shrouded in mystery. This was met with pushback from the 140 dubstep community, who have strongly gatekept the style, with leaders in that scene and fans of the genre digging into who was behind the project, calling it an inauthentic cash grab, and more.

Eventually, this led Tisoki to release a statement regarding the project in March of that year, explaining the story behind its creation and why he decided to go down that path. The pushback also didn’t stop him from continuing to release music or perform under the Grail Sounds alias, with a second single and an additional performance arriving later that summer. But since then, the project has gone dark, and today, Tisoki announced that he’s officially put Grail Sounds on indefinite hiatus.

In his statement, Tisoki openly states that the Grail Sounds project got off on the wrong foot and that he “made a lot more enemies in the dubstep / 140 space than friends,” while owning up to its cause being how it was launched. The pushback from the community clearly seeped into his mind when trying to create new tunes. “I felt in a weird headspace and second guessed everything I made, how it would be perceived, if I’d be called a trend hopper, etc. etc. which obviously, is not a healthy environment to create in,” he shared.

Tisoki went on to thank those who stood by his side during the roller coaster ride of drama that surrounded the project, as well as those who shared harsh comments, which he noted had many points that were valid. And while the Grail Sounds project might be on hiatus moving forward, he did share that if it ever returns, it will be on his terms.

If this thing ever comes back, I’m definitely going to run this project in a different way and operate from my own intentions rather than let outside influences influence what I’m doing. After all, this had started from my love of old school dubstep, not what ‘I should do to be popping’.
