Bass Music IDchart 003: Hot New Beats From Barclay Crenshaw, VAMPA, Klinical, and More

Last week saw fresh bass music releases from Barclay Crenshaw, VAMPA, Klinical, Killa P, Sam Lamar, VLCN, and Supertask.

Another winter week passed means one week closer to festival season being back in full swing. Last week, lineups like Beyond Wonderland Chicago, Elements Festival, and the final phase of Texas Eclipse dropped with plenty of bass music in each one’s mix of genres.

Additionally, fans of elusive halftime producer Tipper received official news of the beloved artist’s pending retirement, which they’d been expecting for the past few years. Word spread pretty quickly throughout the bass music community, and Tipper memes started popping up immediately all over social media.

This week’s hottest tracks in bass music came from a variety of artists with contrasting styles, including Klinical and Killa P, Barclay Crenshaw, VAMPA, and more. Be sure to read below to check out which tracks were selected for the week of February 5-11.

Keep reading for more information on five fresh tracks that dropped this week, and listen to more bass music curations on EDM Identity’s Colossal Commotion and Drum & Bass Delights playlists for the latest tracks updated weekly.

Bass Music IDchart 003 – February 5-11, 2024

Klinical and Killa P – Ready

UK music has, of course, been rightfully getting more attention than ever in 2024, and Overview Music just dropped one of the heaviest lurkers we’ve heard so far this year. Producer Klinical teamed up with grime vocalist and MC Killa P for a tune that could truly only be described as lethal.

This one calls for an immediate car listen to get the entire speaker-shaking effect as the hefty, dull bassline hits like no other. The low end rings so heavily that it’s reminiscent of the deepest note on a grand piano echoing dully into an empty chamber.

VAMPA – Dizzy

From touring alongside tastemakers like SVDDEN DEATH to playing major festivals like Bass Camp and Countdown NYE, VAMPA had a busy year in 2023. Alongside touring, she’s been working on a new project and the first single from her upcoming EP, “Dizzy,” arrived last week via Create Music Group.

Offering a different vibe than much of the heavy dubstep for which she’s known, this seductive midtempo beat features her own vocals to complete the hypnotizing flow. VAMPA said of the track on her Instagram, “This song encompasses our innate attraction towards the forbidden.”

Barclay Crenshaw – Stay Together ft. TeeZandos

Following his recent announcement that he would take a hiatus from his Claude VonStroke alias, Barclay Crenshaw has been putting out tons of new bass music. While his recent releases have been on the heavier side, Barclay collaborated with vocalist TeeZandos for a lighter, unique shift on “Stay Together.”

While the bright indie-pop vocals might seemingly carry the track to an average listener, electronic-tuned ears will quickly pick up on the jungly drums that circle amongst a comforting downtempo bassline in the background. Combining these elements, Barclay Crenshaw brings a unique and emotional flavor to the table on “Stay Together.”

Sam Lamar and VLCN – Top Shelf

Headbangers, this one is for you! Canadian producer Sam Lamar and Florida’s VLCN joined forces for a new heavy hitter that arrived last week via Subtronics‘ Cyclops Recordings.

“Top Shelf” features a classically catchy sample and evil laugh before its heavy womps descend on the listener. This is definitely a track that has an even juicier switch-up on the second drop that will make any basshead want to spin it back.

Supertask – Floating Point

Speaking of switch-ups, there couldn’t be a more contrasting track than the previous one. Calling all ambient and downtempo lovers, this new tune from Supertask is seven minutes of ethereal, cinematic bliss. Released alongside a more experimental counterpart to make a two-track EP, “Floating Point” is a dream.

With every slow-building ebb and flow, Supertask sweeps the imagination to a mythical world where you’re floating through space and time just as the name suggests.
