Thundercat, Peach Pit, Noizu, SIDEPIECE, Walker & Royce, and more are set to play the 10th anniversary edition of Shabang Music Festival.
Music festivals come in all shapes and sizes, and while much of the scene is dominated by those hosted by major promoters, a number of grassroots experiences like Shabang Music Festival have caught the attention of many. Over the past decade, thousands of alternative, indie-dance, and electronic music lovers have traveled to San Luis Obispo for a weekend filled with great music, workshops, and more. This year will mark the festival’s tenth anniversary when it returns to Dairy Creek Golf Course on May 3-4, and they just announced a fantastic lineup to celebrate.
Sitting atop the Shabang Music Festival lineup this year are five artists who are sure to have crowds getting down and dirty on the dancefloor. Thundercat and Peach Pit will bring their indie sounds along for the ride, while Noizu, SIDEPIECE, and Walker & Royce are sure to put on a house clinic. Other artists slated to perform in the dance music realm include LF System, Kaleena Zanders, Silver Panda, Nala, Jackie Hollander, and DJ Mandy. SAWYER, the festival’s music director, will also perform.
There’s plenty more to explore beyond the beats at Shabang, as the festival offers a number of activations and workshops throughout the weekend. The University is their space for yoga, comedy performances, speed dating, and countless other activities throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, the Haüs Party is their silent disco that takes place in a literal house with living room furniture, a backyard, and more that pays homage to SLO’s house show culture.
Those planning to attend Shabang this year will be able to camp for the first time since its inaugural edition in 2014. Packages at El Chorro Regional Park Campground, which is a ten-minute walk from the venue, will be available, with amenities including fire pits, bathrooms, showers, and RV hookups.
