The Prodigy Forced to Cancel Third Gig After Maxim Suffers Back Injury

After absences from Boomtown Festival and Dreambeach Festival, The Prodigy have also canceled their Venoges Festival appearance.

Fans of world-famous big beat group The Prodigy who planned to catch their sets at Boomtown Festival in the UK and Spain’s Dreambeach Festival were afforded no such opportunity this past weekend. The band had to cancel their performances at the two festivals after their vocalist, Maxim, received treatment for a back injury. Now, they’ve added a third to the list: Venoge Festival in Switzerland.

“The Prodigy have unfortunately been forced to cancel their upcoming headline festival performances at Dreambeach (ES) and Boomtown (UK) under doctor’s orders, as Maxim recovers from a temporary back injury,” reads a Thursday statement from the group. “This isn’t a decision the band take lightly and they apologise to all fans who are travelling to these shows. We will update everyone on his progress and future shows as soon as possible.”

On Monday, The Prodigy shared that they would need pull out from their Venoge appearance as well. “We will update on future festivals as soon as possible,” they write.

Boomtown Festival took place in Winchester, a city in which The Prodigy have not performed in over 30 years. Dreambeach Festival drew revelers to the Palomares Beach in Villaricos. Both events ran from August 11-13, and Venoge Festival takes place from August 16-19 in Penthaz.

The Prodigy formed in 1990 and originally consisted of Liam Howlett, Maxim, Leeroy Thornhill, Sharky, and the late Keith Flint. Albums like Music for the Jilted Generation and The Fat of the Land placed them at the tipping point of the big beat era, and they shared the spotlight with acts like The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. In March 2019, Flint was found dead in his Essex, UK home at age 49. The band began touring again in 2022 — first in the UK, and then abroad the following year.

It remains to be seen whether The Prodigy will be forced to cancel additional gigs due to Maxim’s injury. This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
