The upcoming edition of Drumcode Malta will not take place due to “an accumulation of unresolved problems” with ticketing platform Pollen.

Many techno lovers have been dreaming of getting their dose of subterranean beats on a picturesque Mediterranean island at Drumcode Malta for years. The initial edition was set to take place in 2021, but it was postponed due to complications during the pandemic, with Drumcode and Pollen looking toward greener pastures in 2022 for the experience to debut instead. Earlier this year, they dropped details for the forthcoming edition, including a stacked lineup of artists, but the festival is now officially canceled with just over a month until it was set to kick off in September.

Drumcode Malta’s cancellation announcement arrived earlier today via a post to the festival’s social media pages. The Drumcode team states that there were unresolved problems with Pollen that led them to lose confidence in producing an event with high standards of safety and customer experience.

Over recent weeks it has become clear that Pollen’s arrangements for customer and venue safety, suitable staffing, and financial management do not meet the requirements of the high quality events we take pride in delivering. We have made every effort to work with them to resolve these issues but, despite their repeated assurances, critical deadliners at the end of last week passed without the necessary improvements being made.

The Drumcode team also sheds light on the status of refunds for those who were planning to attend the festival. They claim to have not received any form of payment from Pollen, as the platform handled all ticket and accommodation package transactions. Pollen also controls the contact details for all attendees, leaving Drumcode unable to handle refunds themselves. Those who had purchased tickets or packages should contact Pollen directly at [email protected] or [email protected].

More details can be found via the FAQ on the Drumcode Malta website, and any questions that might not be answered there can be directed to [email protected].
