The Nevada Department of Business and Industry has denied the initial safety plan from Insomniac Events for EDC Las Vegas 2021.
Update April 8: Insomniac Events has pressed on with the announcement that EDC Las Vegas will be taking place on May 21-23. You can find their full announcement in this post, but as of this update, a safety plan has not been approved by Nevada.
Earlier: As fans await an official announcement from Pasquale Rotella and Insomniac Events about the status of EDC Las Vegas that was intended to arrive by today (April 8), more news about the potential edition of the festival happening on May 21-23 has surfaced. Fox 5 Vegas has obtained the initial safety plan that was proposed to the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, who has since confirmed that they denied the safety plan.
The proposed plan, which can be found in its entirety via this page, provides insight into how Insomniac planned to make this year’s edition of EDC Las Vegas safe for attendees. Found inside are some specific capacity numbers for each stage, the footprint of the festival grounds at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and an anticipated 200,000 attendees who would be making their way to the speedway each day.
More importantly, the safety plan details everything that Insomniac Events intended to do in their efforts to make EDC Las Vegas a reality on their originally planned May dates. This included everything from policies on attendees wearing masks and COVID-19 sniffing dogs to attendees needing to provide a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of vaccination to enter the festival grounds. Insomniac Events stressed in the plan that the outdoor nature of the event would make it one that is “low risk” for transmission of COVID-19 as well. Other details to note in the plan include staff dedicated to enforcing mask-wearing, sanitization stations, and health screenings for staff and performers.
Teri Williams, a spokesperson for the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, confirmed that the safety plan presented by Insomniac was not approved because it did not comply with the Directive 041 requirement. They went on to state that they had yet to submit a revised plan. We’ve reached out to Insomniac for comment on the plan’s denial, but there has been no response or public statement as of publishing.
Stay tuned as more details about the status of EDC Las Vegas 2021 as this is a developing story.
