The show will not go on tonight in Houston as Disco Donnie Presents’ No Parking On The Dance Floor was shut down by local authorities.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and resulted in the postponement or outright cancellation of live shows and festivals across the country, promoters had to get creative in figuring out a way to stay afloat. While some flocked to platforms like Twitch and YouTube to keep their fans engaged, others like Disco Donnie looked to more creative solutions to bring live shows to the masses. The result? A flurry of events at drive-in theaters that have popped up across the country.
As one of the first big promoters to truly embrace the concept here in North America, Disco Donnie Presents helped set the standard for these drive-in events with the Road Rave series that took place back in June. Much akin to other events taking place around the nation, rules have been put in place since the start in their efforts to enforce social distancing measures and keep attendees as safe as possible while at the show.
While many drive-in events have seemingly gone off without a hitch, a show unrelated to DDP in New York that featured The Chainsmokers drew national attention for a lack of social distancing and masks being worn by attendees. This has sent a ripple effect across the country with local governments keeping a closer eye on drive-in shows, and tonight, the edition of No Parking On The Dance Floor in Houston was forced to shut down by local authorities.
In the lead-up to the show, Disco Donnie and the DDP crew explicitly stated that attendees needed to wear masks and follow guidelines through posts on social media and their event page on Facebook. While the true reason for the cancellation is still yet to be disclosed, accounts from those in attendance began to surface in regards to attendees not following rules, some even being posted in Disco Donnie’s initial thread on Twitter.
An hour after that first tweet, Disco Donnie Presents posted an official statement about the cancellation. “Our first priority will always be the safety and well-being of our community,” it reads before going on to say that the cause of the shutdown was due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Additionally, Disco Donnie took to Twitter to address the claims that the event was oversold or that there was a lack of masks being worn by attendees.
No Parking On The Dance Floor Houston was set to feature Subtronics, HE$H, Level Up, and Ghost Data. Those who had purchased tickets to the event will be able to request a full refund or will be able to use them for the rescheduled date. As of publishing, no details have surfaced in regards to the date they plan to move to in the future, stay tuned for more information.
