Whethan closely collaborated with Oliver Tree over the years, co-producing some of the biggest hits in his discography.
Whethan has cancelled his set at Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, British Columbia, and postponed two Las Vegas shows due to schedule conflicts with the late Oliver Tree‘s memorial service.
“I have made the decision to postpone these two Vegas shows and unfortunately, cancel my performance at Shambhala,” wrote Whethan (real name Ethan Snoreck) in social media posts. “My good friend and creative partner Oliver is being honored at his memorial that weekend.”
He continued: “I’ve been looking forward to playing Shambhala for a long time and I was so excited to finally experience it with all of you. I truly hope we can make it happen in the future and come back even bigger and go even harder.”
Snoreck shared that the two Las Vegas shows — set to take place at SUBSTΛNCΞ on July 23-24 — will be postponed to August 6-7. As for Shambhala Music Festival, fans will need to wait until the 2027 lineup drop to find out whether he’ll be on the bill.
Oliver Tree, whose full name was Oliver Tree Nickell, died in a helicopter collision over Rio de Janeiro along with five other people on Sunday, June 14. He was a beloved fixture of not only EDM but also styles like rock, pop, and hip-hop. His release history extends back to the dubstep tracks he self-released under the name Kryph at age 17.
Snoreck and Nickell started collaborating six years later, with the former credited as co-producer on the latter’s 2016 hit single, “When I’m Down.” In 2020, Snoreck heavily contributed to Nickell’s debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful.
“I’m incredibly sorry to everyone who was planning on coming out,” Snoreck wrote in closing. “Thank you all for understanding and for all the love you’ve shown me over these past few weeks. It means more than I can put into words.”
