Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have represented Tomorrowland as global ambassadors almost as long as the festival has been around.
It’s been one thing after another for Tomorrowland lately. This week, organizers were forced to cancel planned firework shows due to Boom, Belgium‘s code orange wildfire warning. Now, Like Mike has broken the news that he must pull out of his performances at the festival alongside sibling DJ partner Dimitri Vegas.
Like Mike (real name Michael Thivaios) got candid with his fans in an Instagram Story from the duo’s account, sharing that he’s recently faced health setbacks. His recovery will require him to pause touring for “the next months,” including sets during both weekends of Tomorrowland and an unspecified number of dates on their Wednesday residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
“Cancelling these shows … is a decision I have not made lightly,” wrote Thivaios. “I would never do this unless I felt it was truly necessary.”
But the show looks to go on, albeit with a major caveat. Thivaios shared, “I’m incredibly grateful that my brother Dimitri will continue doing what he does best and will keep bringing the energy to every stage. I know he’ll make every show unforgettable, and I couldn’t be happier knowing you’re in the best hands like always.”
Tomorrowland was first held in 2005, initially drawing a relatively modest 10,000 attendees for sets by the likes of Armin van Buuren an Felix Da Housecat. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have served as global ambassadors for the brand since 2009. Among other things, they’re credited as producers on the now 400,000-strong EDM festival’s anthems, also assisting in its creative branding and lineup curation.
Tomorrowland’s gates open from July 27-19 and 24-26. If you can’t make the pilgrimage to the De Schorre recreation area this year, you can still catch the official livestreams broadcast straight from the festival grounds.
