Oliver Tree’s Child Grant Foundation to Launch Posthumously

The Santa Cruz artist’s untimely passing has prompted his estate to launch Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses in his honor.

The outpouring of tributes hasn’t let up since Oliver Tree died in a helicopter crash along with five other individuals over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, June 14. His estate has now joined the conversation, sharing plans to launch a charity endowment foundation that the envelope-pushing talent had begun to execute prior to his untimely passing.

In true Oliver Tree fashion, the organization’s name is a delightful word salad: Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses. While further details have yet to be announced, it can be gleaned that the initiative will most likely offer some form of support for gifted children.

“This is something that Oliver had put together before his passing, written in his will,” reads a statement shared from the “Life Goes On” artist’s Instagram account. “We will make sure his wish comes to fruition so that more joy, love and art can be spread into the world, that was his final wish.”

Oliver Tree, whose full name was Oliver Tree Nickell, was born in 1993 to parents who moonlighted as circus performers. He initially gained traction producing dubstep under the moniker Kryph at age 17, and he self-released his debut album, Splitting Branches, in 2013. In the years that followed, tracks like “Miss You” and “Alien Boy” came to earn him 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Investigations into the helicopter collision that claimed the lives of Nickell and the others are still ongoing at the time of writing. As of Sunday, June 21, his body is “back in California where he can finally rest,” according to the statement shared by his estate.
