Miss Bashful touched down in San Francisco for the second stop of The Glamour Snobby Tour, highlighting empowerment, confidence, and self-expression.
Dance music has always been a creative space for outcasts and misfits to thrive. A fiery passion and unrequited love for the culture are key factors to success, and Miss Bashful proudly embodies these characteristics everywhere she goes. Throughout her explosive career, Miss Bashful has waved the flag for “slut tech,” combining club-ready production with bold, playful, and sexy lyrics that encourage empowerment and self-expression.
Recently, Miss Bashful announced the latest installment in her journey: Glamour Snobby, releasing on May 1. As her most personal and fully realized project to date, it was only right that she also hit the road on The Glamour Snobby Tour across the US. I was lucky enough to attend her stop at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. It was, at the same time, nothing and everything I expected!
Over the past year, I’ve delved into the neo-perreo genre and adjacent styles. I’ve learned to love the crossover between Latin influences, techno, and hot girl anthems. Miss Bashful is one of the artists I’ve been exposed to on this journey (shout out to my fiancé), and she’s made a fan out of me. Her over-the-top style is delivered with a wink of self-awareness, and this authenticity is exactly what I’ve come to love about her project.
The Glamour Snobby Tour was stacked to the brim with talent, including Miss Madeline and Luca Eck. For the uninitiated, Luca Eck is the mastermind behind a lot of the genre’s biggest hits including records with Miss Bashful herself, Six Sex, TERRA, and so many others. On the other hand, Miss Madeline is bringing the it-girl attitude to pop music, helping define a new era of artists.
I didn’t know what to expect seeing Miss Madeline, but she instantly made a statement to show that she’s the life of the party. Her performance truly felt like watching Britney Spears in her prime, but with a chip on her shoulder and just a little more edge. The fans responded extremely well to her, and she kicked off the night in style.
Luca Eck took the decks afterwards for a masterclass in neo-perreo. I’ve yet to hear much of this genre in the Bay Area, but I’m confident that Luca left the city wanting more. Tracks by Six Sex and RIXXIA, along with speedy remixes of 2010s pop music, blasted through the speakers, and Luca Eck only solidified my love for this newfound genre. It was quite the treat getting to see an expert at work, and I’ll never forget being able to catch this genre emerging in the States in such an intimate setting.
Miss Bashful’s set finally started after Luca Eck, and there was no mistake as the screens on stage filled up with dinosaurs in BDSM outfits. Yeah, that checks out. Playfulness aside, Miss Bashful instantly had the Bashfulettes in the palm of her hand as soon as she came out, stunning the audience with a steamy performance that rode the fine line of art and rebellion.
Fans in attendance were treated to unreleased tracks from her upcoming album in addition to her latest releases — like “HUNKA HUNKA,” which was performed alongside another special guest, _SANTI_. Of course, Miss Bashful is all about fan service, and this came in the form of playing out her greatest hits like “NEIN SCHATZ,” “Slut Commandments,” “Short King Spring,” and more. Further, she came out for an encore at the end of the night to push the tempo to the extreme with Vieze Asbak‘s exhilarating remix of “Muschi Muschi.”
Miss Bashful puts on a show that’s energetic, raunchy, bold, fluid, and every adjective in between. Simply for this, it’s a can’t-miss. But personally, my favorite aspect is how Miss Bashful creates a safe space for everyone. This crowd was one of the most diverse that I’ve ever seen, and I review raves professionally! Seeing all of the different scenes and cultures who came out was special, and this isn’t by accident. Miss Bashful has fostered this community on purpose, and it’s one that I’m happy to support.
After experiencing The Glamour Snobby Tour, I struggled to figure out how I was going to write about it and define it under one theme. The more I thought about it, however, the more I realized that I can’t define Miss Bashful or put her into a box. That’s what makes her project so unique.
The Glamour Snobby Tour isn’t a one-size-fits-all event, but it is for everyone regardless. Nobody can tell you how to enjoy a Miss Bashful Show, but I believe that fans need to attend to really understand what she’s all about: self-expression, empowerment, dominance, and anything else she wants to be.
