Techno DJ and Producer Chris Liebing is giving fans a taste of his first 13-track solo album with the two-track EP, Roy Batty.

Teasing fans with two of the 13 tracks comprising his upcoming album, Evolver, Chris Liebing is giving listeners a strong sense of what’s to come. The German techno staple has announced his forthcoming effort is set to come out on Friday, March 27 on his CLR imprint, marking his first solo techno LP. In the meantime, he’s offered up two of its tracks in the form of Roy Batty.

While Liebing has never slowed down creatively, his recent full-length work leans into expansive, cinematic electronica. His 2018 album Burn Slow and 2023’s Another Day, both created with longtime collaborator Ralf Hildenbeutel for Mute Records, explored moody, vocal-heavy productions. Before that, Liebing’s 2002 project Evolution was co-produced with artist Andre Walter. Evolver, by contrast, returns to the dancefloor with a singular focus: strictly techno.

Still, Liebing doesn’t travel alone. The LP features contributions from a pool of techno innovators, including Charlotte de Witte, Luke Slater, Speedy J, The Advent, The Alte Stuben Modular Ensemble aka Daniel Miller, Terence Fixmer, and Pascal Gabriel. The lineup reflects both the artist’s legacy and his continued relevance in the genre.

The first glimpse of this exciting, new chapter arrives via Roy Batty, which consists of the title track and “Brooks Ave.” A foundational piece of the upcoming album, “Roy Batty” draws inspiration from Rutger Hauer’s iconic Blade Runner character, tapping into techno’s long-running connection with futurism, films, and video games. On the flipside, “Brooks Ave” offers a more direct acid single. Named after the Los Angeles street where Liebing spends his time, this track was the root of Evolver. It represents the point when he began to simply trust the process and let the universe do its work as he did his.

With Roy Batty, Liebing offers a glimpse into his inner world, with Evolver sitting at the core of that vision. Through the project, Liebing takes a solo journey to reconnect with the raw pulse of techno. The album serves as both a personal reset and a reminder that even after decades behind the decks and in the studio, evolution never stops.

Be sure to pre-order Roy Batty on your favorite streaming platform ahead of its release on Friday, January 30, and follow Chris Liebing on social media to stay up to date on his upcoming album, Evolver, dropping Friday, March 27.
