“Black Midas” sees ZHU dabble in big room techno. It’s the lead single of an upcoming album of the same name that’s slated for release in March.
ZHU fans are lighting up across the globe today, as the multitalented artist has released a new track titled “Black Midas.” It’s the lead single from, and title track of his first album since 2024’s GRACE, slated for release on March 20 via BROKE / BLACKLIZT SOUND SYNDICATE.
“Black Midas” takes inspiration from big room techno a la Drumcode, with a stadium-sized synth melody giving it a certain gravity from the outset. Of course, ZHU’s vocals feature heavily, delivering lyrics sure to make the track an anthem at contemporary hard techno parties everywhere. Piano-oriented breakdowns anchor “Black Midas” to the songwriting panache that garnered him attention in the first place, before the peak-time elements drop back in full force.
“In the beginning my music was intended for the dancefloor, and was the clubby part of my sound,” said ZHU. “For me, BLACK MIDAS is a return to why I first made music. Obviously, I’ve experimented and gone into different genres throughout my career, but I thought it was important for my new fans, my contemporaries, and also the new dance community, to understand that I came from that world from the beginning and am still a part of it. That’s why I made this record. What I’m doing now speaks to my core fans, but also to the core dance fans of today.”
Alongside the release, ZHU has delivered a ten-minute film that also shares its title with that of the album. Shot and set in Istanbul, it depicts the artist visiting a fortune teller for guidance as he embarks on a new creative chapter.
