The United Nations is commemorating its 80-year anniversary with an electro-classical UN Chamber Music Society album featuring electronic artists from across the globe.
In 1945, the United Nations was established in the aftermath of World War II to promote international peace and security, protect human rights, and prevent future global conflicts. Then, in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society was founded to advance these values through the universal language of music.
Now, the UN’s Chamber Music Society is commemorating the UN’s 80-year-anniversary with HARMONY, an album that meshes electronic and classical music together. This crossover of genres that appeal to vastly different audiences — one with roots stretching back centuries, and the other relatively new — symbolizes a powerful unity across cultures and generations.
Brenda Vongova, Founder and Artistic Director of the UN Chamber Music Society
Electronic music is a universal language that has brought people together from all over the world, spreading peace, positivity and inclusivity. Through HARMONY, we are taking these powerful electronic works and reimagining them in an orchestral setting, creating a sonic bridge between genres, cultures, and communities
The project uses orchestral instrumentation as a tool to reimagine nine popular electronic tracks. Palestinian-Canadian and Jewish-American producer duo Sultan & Shepherd contributed a remix of their 2023 hit “RnR” to the album, emblematic of cross-cultural collaboration and the album’s broader message of bridging cultural divides through music.
The album’s artist and track selection was carefully curated to represent a diverse range of music from Asia, Africa, North and Latin America, and Western and Eastern Europe. Additional artists featured on HARMONY are Ukranian duo ARTBAT, blind recording artist and disability advocate Lachi from Nigeria, notable Indian-American producer KSHMR, Canadian-Haitian DJ and producer Francis Mercier, and rising Colombian electronic artist Julio Victoria, among others.
“By celebrating the works of composers from diverse backgrounds, we help to realign the world of electronic music — symbolizing our hopes of building bridges of understanding of human rights,” Vongova said.
In the spirit of PLUR, 100% of the money made from streaming sites will be donated to the UN’s humanitarian efforts. Listen to HARMONY on Spotify or your preferred streaming platform.
