Veteran DJ Fatboy Slim has teamed up with legendary UK rock band The Rolling Stones for a revamped collaborative mash-up sampling two of the acts’ most influential songs.
Not often do we get to witness an official joint release from two impenetrable legacy acts across different genre spaces. Today, after decades of playing the unreleased ID in his sets, “sloganistic” sound pioneer Norman Quentin Cook, professionally known as Fatboy Slim, has formally partnered with Britain’s most beloved classic rock outfit, The Rolling Stones, for a landmark collaboration that samples two of the acts’ most legendary records.
As of today, “Satisfaction Skank” is finally streaming everywhere.
After decades of playing out the unreleased mix to sold-out stadiums, Fatboy Slim was eventually entrusted to behold the sacred, culture-shaping original stems—delivered to him via an armored van—comprising the Stones’ 1965 mega-hit, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Over Keith Richards‘ iconic tape-recorded guitar riff, he overlays the unmistakable spoken-word vocal from his 1998 anthem, “The Rockafeller Skank,” while Mick Jagger intermittently chimes in with his timeless hook.
“Over countless years, I have always dreamed of an official release for this mash-up,” muses Fatboy Slim, adding, “It has been a favorite in my DJ sets for over a quarter of a century. I can confirm it is thoroughly road tested and fit for [its] purpose.”
Released in partnership between Southern Fried Records and ABCKO Records, “Satisfaction Skank” speaks for itself as an “analogue-meets-digital” tour de force. The genre-defying single, and its accompanying extended version, triumphantly fuses classic rock and breakbeat dance to achieve a contemporary, beat-driven reflection of two of the most influential songs in modern music history.
