Making his debut on Odyzey Music, Defunk unveils four new tracks that symbolize perseverance as he expands the scope of his project with his latest EP, Bloom.

Funky bass music emerged as one of the biggest trends in electronic music in 2025. An early adopter of the movement, Canadian DJ and producer Defunk has a long track record of putting his own spin on the style, continually pushing the envelope with each release. From collaborations with SoDown, AHEE, and Father Funk, to his massive 2023 album, The Voyage, he has amassed an impressive catalog brimming with inventive soundscapes.

Adding to his discography, Defunk has released his latest body of work, Bloom. Released on CloZee’s Odyzey Music, the four-track EP is the producer’s first large-scale release in two years.

Opening up on social media, Defunk noted that the EP emerged from his recommitment to the project after a prolonged period of exhaustion. The result of his trials has led to a vibrant story of rebirth.

The EP begins with the track “Freaky,” which leans into the darker side of bass music. Utilizing a vocal sample stating “you make me lose it,” the song quickly builds into a dynamic, heavy banger with thumping bass stabs. In juxtaposition, “Young and Free” features atmospheric, futuristic textures that contribute to a dreamy sound design. The second drop’s grimy and wobbling bass adds an element of surprise.

Linking up for their third collaboration, Slynk and Defunk make magic once again on “With You.” A groovy bassline with guitar layered atop melds with space bass zaps and shimmering synths for a spectacular clash of sounds. Closing out the extended play is “Kick Back,” a cunning collision of dubstep elements and global influences.

Stepping back into the role of devising comprehensive projects, Defunk closes out his year of releases on a high note, with an effort full of flavor and zeal as he welcomes a new era.
